I just learned that the Hilton Hotel group purchased the Springmaid Beach Resort and Conference Center which is located at the southern end of Myrtle Beach. We are staying right across the street at the Holiday Inn South Beach resort.

I learned this during my owners update at HIVC HICV. This "news" actually occurred in January 2015.

Do any Hilton folks here know if they plan to convert some or all of this resort to timeshares? It is located on a very nice and large piece of beachfront property. Although the articles report it will become a DoubleTree, I am suspecting that Hilton might indeed make some timeshare conversions.

Just thinking......

I hadn't heard this news not to say I know everything about Hilton. There was an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal yesterday about how being branded under the Doubletree name was easier and cheaper than some of the other names. One of the ways this is done, is they allow A/C units in the windows where as the Hilton brand requires central air.

Reading that this resort was open in 50's and next to the beach, I doubt they every upgraded to central air. I don't see this becoming part of HGVC as I wonder when the last time was you stayed at a HGVC resort with A/C in the window.. (hopefully never).

Eitherway, good news for hhonors members.

Anderson isn't that old and Ocean 22 is still in diapers. They've already started on Hilton Head. I doubt they'll open a 3rd MB property and 4th in that region. Maybe eventually, after they see how things play out with the existing 3.

Good points. I forgot about (or did not know about) the Hilton properties here in MB. I think I know of one, but not aware of the others.

Likely they will not expand with more timeshares in this areas. BTW - what are they "starting" in Hilton Head?

MB Expansion Rumors

We spent last week in MB at Oceans 22 and during the **awful** owners update, got the impression that they are trying to close on the property right next to O22 (I think the Breakers, not the Schooner II). If true that will put a lot of units on the S. Carolina market over the next few years: (1) Hilton Head has 125 2-bedroom units, (2)45% of Ocean 22 is sold, (3) Any additional units from the potential new property. Anderson is pretty much sold out.

Really liked the Ocean 22 property.
