Please forgive me in advance if this has already been discussed. I would like to assist my 20 year old college daughter and 2 girlfriends with planning a trip for their spring break. No, I am not advocating or talking about sponsoring the typical alcohol laden week. The girls would simply like to relax at the beach, or at a resort with a great pool. It is impossible for us to vacation with them because we also have an 8th grader, that is on a different holiday period. Unfortunately, we will not be able to do both holiday weeks.

Just curious to know if any other parents have assisted their kids? Any special considerations? I know that most resorts/hotels require you to be 21 or some 25 to check-in. Not sure of the work around this. Just curious. Thanks.

There is no work around. That rule is in place for a reason.

You could try going through a company that runs spring break for college students. But that would for sure include a alcohol laden week.

Cancun, alot of places are 18 and they'll get alot of growing up done too, there are just some experiences an 18yr old doesn't have that they need to have to be a well rounded adult...Cancun during spring break can help with a bunch of those things

Yee,
I count 3 sets of parents and NONE of you all want to go with the 3 nice girls who just want to get pool time and some beach time?

As am1 posted, there is NO work around and the rule is there for a reason.

PS. I booked a Spring Break Week at Daytona Beach Ocean Walk for my 19 yo nephew. I will be in attendance 100% of the time. I know there will be no liquor or beer or noise .... And he knows that, too.

Sometimes if you hug too tight to can smother the life out of a child...I know you guys love your kids, but they need to be kids, they need to make mistakes, the need LIFE experience.....Maybe its because i'm just over 30, but when i look back some of my most fond memories are the mistakes i've made and some of my strongest memories are those mistakes i regret, but without either one of those sets of memories i wouldn't have grown up to be the well rounded individual i am right now

Ride, The world has changed to where "dumb" youthfulness is now found with a Google search function or on a Facebook page.

There are resorts that will accept guests under 21. I booked a place in Orlando for my then 19 year old dd and a couple of her friends. They wanted it as they wanted to go to Disney and I wanted them to be in a nice place where there would also be things to do at the resort. This was not during spring break, and I know this kid and wasn't concerned. I did check with the resort before I booked to be sure the age was okay.

I do not disagree. I just do not want my guests disturbed while they are on vacation at the same resort. Or excess damage that the HOA has to pay for and the next one to stay in the unit has to deal with.

Also the OP thinks that alcohol will not be involved.

LOL! ... What she needs is a 21 y.o. friend to check in for them.

I doubt she'll make as many mistakes as one young college student that I know of. She...
-- Used a roommates identity to get a fraudulent drivers license so she could go clubbing.
-- She was charged with a felony for doing so when the roommate filed a complaint.
-- A warrant was issued when she failed to show for court.
-- Then found out she was pregnant and not sure who the father was.

Her mother said: "I sent two daughters away to college. One turned out fine. This one drops out, comes home a fugative from the law and 4 months pregnant. Where did I go worng?"

Yep, Ride, I'm sure there are all sorts of things you are going to let, or even encourage your daughter to do when she is a teenager. Be sure to report back to us how it goes.

I think Disney hotels are 18 yrs old for check-in. Not a beach, but some of the hotels have nice beachy themes--such as Old Key West and Carib. Beach resort. Lots to do, even if not going to any theme parks.
I am thinking Disney's Vero beach resort and Hilton Head resorts also might be 18 yrs old. Neither Hilton Head or Vero is a hot spot for crazy spring breakers.
And re. Cancun for Spring break---I cannot think of much worse than that for some 20 yr old girls! Although, you can be assured whatever happens in Cancun, won't "stay" in Cancun, as it will most likely be on Facebook the next day.
We were in Nassau last spring break--a smaller version of Cancun, as well.

I have been disturbed by drunken adults while on vacation at several upscale resorts. You know folks in their 40 or 50's. I think it is unfair to put all young adults in the same category. PLease do not make any assumptions about alcohol. I make no assumptions about what is going on with you or your family. Just asking a question.

Wow, you guys are a hard bunch. I was once a college kid, so I do know what goes on. I will say that I know my daughter and her friends better than any one of you posting sarcastic comments. I was just asking a question. Geez!! She does not need to wait until spring break if she wants to drink.

Sorry if you didn't see the several comments regarding possible solutions by prior posters.
A). One was booking a unit in Cancun.
B). Another was investigating a DVC week as it had been poster before that you only need to be 18 yo to checkin.
C). My suggestion was, there are more than just you (and the father) as possible over 21 year who are parents.
D.) New suggestion is having a related 21+ sibling to one of these 20 yo students going with them.
E). And in re-reading your original poster, I realize that your 8 year old has a different Spring Break - split YOU and YOUR husband's vacation. One goes with the 20 yo and friends and the other parent, goes enjoys the school break with your 8 year old.
F). And the comment, to forge fake id for your daughter (with its possible problems).

Afterall, this will be the last year YOU need to do this.

As for drunken 40-50 year olds you have encountered - I have called security on rowdy drunks of all ages while at resorts. And filed complaints against uninvited person(s) beating on my door at one resort after 11PM.

I booked Wyndham Ocean Walk for my son and his friends in college. It was one of the few resorts I found that had a check-in age of 19. Dawn

I would agree with having one adult go with the young women OR having an older sibling go with them. OR I would recommend putting your daughter and her friends on the search for a resort that will accept under 21 year olds. My kids have gone on solo vacations from the time they were 18 on but I did not make the arrangements for them to go and they were truly just interested in traveling, not excessive drinking. I just made a trade through II and I had to agree to the policy that at least one of the group was over 21, so I think it would be risky to do a trade, as the young ladies may show up at a resort and NOT be allowed to register- that would be a huge disappointment. There are lots of places to go, have fun and still not have to do a work around to circumvent the rules.

This might not be of interest to you but when my Daughter was 17 or 18 she and a couple of her friends went on a mission trip to the Dominician Republic during their Spring Break. They loved it. What was interesting when I asked them what made the biggest impression on them. Their answer was that although the people were poorer than dirt they seemed happier than many, if not most, of us in the good old USA.

OP, I was not commenting on your DD's possible behavior--but rather letting you know that Cancun and Nassau would be places that they might be uncomfortable in (as "good" kids), because of the amount of drinking/ etc. that goes on. As the mother of a teen DD, I just wouldn't put her in a situation where something had the strong potential to go South whether from peer pressure or just being in the area (wrong place/wrong time). Good luck with your choice. Elaine

Drinking is legal at 18 in both Cancun and the Bahamas from what i remember, good kids are still good kids if they drink at these locations
