Our basketball season ticket renewal payment is due in a couple of weeks. I keep waiting for the school to indicate what they are planning to do, including some contingency plans about what happens to our ticket money if the season is cancelled. We are keeping our seats no matter what but I would like to either have the ticket cost credited to the following season if this season gets cancelled, or alternatively have the entire cost be considered a donation and at least get a tax write off, and as a good portion is already considered a donation this seems like a reasonable option. Paying for tickets and getting nothing is not an appealing option. So far the university has said nothing at all.

*I am curious to see what other teams are doing.*

Btw, I understand that everyone is going through the same thing, I understand and agree that player and fan safety is the #1 concern, I understand that no one can predict what is happening, so lets try to stick to what the various teams are doing and keep this from becoming a contentious covid thread. For me this is all about how the money is getting handled because our tickets cost almost as much as the annual maintenance fees for our timeshares. In this thread I am all about the $$$ ;)

Michigan football has extended the deadline to renew. It is usually around this time, but has been moved to 6/1. If the entire season is cancelled, you can apply everything (including the PSA "donation") to 2021 or have it refunded. They haven't said anything about partial seasons yet, which makes sense because there are too many variables.

FWIW, I do not believe that there will be NCAA football in 2020.

Thanks for the info on how your university is handling tickets. I thought that our university would say something about it and have been waiting but here we are, about 14 days away and nothing has been said. I think that it's a big ask to expect everyone to send in a large check for who-knows-what. Totally agree with you about the fall season, and I am skeptical about basketball next winter. So many fans sitting so close together inside of an enclosed arena. I think that it's 50/50 at best and I wonder if they will play in empty or nearly empty arenas (family only?).

I really surprised that your renewal time for football is in the spring! We used to have football tickets too and I believe that our renewal was almost immediately after the end of the season. We let those tickets go since fall is also our travel season, so we just pick up game tickets when we can go. I hadn't thought to see how they are handling football season tickets as everyone had renewed before everything changed so I will see what I can find out about football.

I don't see the NCAA doing this. It takes the last thin veneer off of the illusion that this isn't just a business vs. a nice quaint campus custom. That to me seems like a bridge they will not want to cross, because it opens them to even more difficult questions.

Here's an example of a difficult question: If Michigan's athletics budget is $185M (it is), and the vast majority of that is generated by the football team (it is), why is it that players are paid in the form of a scholarship that is worth at most $70K/year?

(My wife and I are thinking hard about dropping our tickets. But, our son will be an undergrad there for another few years. Our daughter is graduating this year and signed up for a pair as well. She's going to grad school in Wisconsin, and is planning to come back at least a few times each season. So, maybe we will keep going for a while, but I am increasingly uncomfortable about my small role in it all.)

The PSA donations are due a few months earlier, so that deadline is a bit of a chimera.

I am a Hamilton Ti-Cat season ticket holder .( CFL- 3 down / real football )
The CFL preseason would normally start in late May with the season openers in mid -late June .

For now the league is simply postponing the start / including training camps .
. Rosters are 46 with a minimum of 21 non - imports - so roughly 1/2 the players
can’t get to camp until the border reopens to non essential travel .

If any sort of season does happen - it will be for TV : TSN in Canada / ESPN in USA
likely without fans in attendance .

I assume the Ticats will roll my payment over to 2021 season - not a problem as far as I am concerned
