We're going to deposit our 2BR at Royal Sands for Thanksgiving week. Can't decide whether to split into 1BR and lock-out or deposit it whole. Pros and cons? We've never deposited a lock-out, so don't know what we could get in return. We're never going to want to stay in a lock-out.

In most cases you want to lock-out. The reason is that for most cases the 1BR is going to fetch the same units as the 2BR. The studio ends up being a bonus week. The exceptions to this are more difficult exchanges and/or 2BR requests into lock-off resorts. If you instant trade then always lock-off and deposit both sides. It boils down to what you are after on an exchange. Specifically trading into prime season in areas that don't have an abundant supply.

Also, you can still easily trade the studio side for a 1BR or larger unit.
