We had to have some maintenance work done on our car today. First work on the car on Molokai. We had the brakes done all the way around and I had the oil changed for the year, we use synthetic oil. I had them check it all over and I wanted a price on tires.

We had an appointment and dropped it off at 8:30am. So we decided to spend the day in Kaunakakai. We started with Breakfast at Mrs. K's. I had a Bacon Omelet and Kim had Fried Saimin. After that I had to get some money at the bank. Across from the bank there was some tree trimming getting done by the Library. It's amazing how high those guys go.

Kim was having some problems with her phone so we stopped at the Verizon store and they fixed the issue and we had them replace both of our screen savers. They have both been cracked for quite some time already. They cleaned everything and they are like new again. We had fun talking to the owner and people watching while our phone work was being done.

After that we went into some stores we just never had time to go into yet. We each picked up new shirts and had fun talking to the owners again. After that it was lunch time so we stopped at another spot we haven't hit yet, The Store House. They just added plate lunches with a hot food station. Kim had the Chili Nachos and I had a Chicken and Roast Pork Plate. We took it across the street at the Ball field where there are some picnic tables.

We ended out talking to a few locals while enjoying our picnic. From there we walked over to the Community Center. It started to rain then and we were under a big Pavillion so we were at a great spot to ride out some rain. On the way back we noticed a snail or slug on the bench we were sitting on before the rain.:D

When the rain stopped we started walking back to the repair shop and on our way back they called and said it was ready. Timing was perfect so we stopped at Dave's for some Ice Cream for later. Right after that it started raining again. Then we finished out the evening with a nice full moon over the Cabana.

All in all, we planned a great day in town. Here's some pictures from through the day. shaka

Jeff & Kim, your little island paradise seems like a . . . well- . . . paradise.

I thought of you as I was pushing last night's fresh snow off the walks and driveway this morning. *sigh*

So far so good. It's been 4 years in Hawaii now and over a year on Molokai and we still don't miss the snow. :D

"Irish Seasoned chicken"--you'll have to report back on that one.
I mean, is it just salt? :D
(Said by someone who married into a large Irish Catholic family, none of whom were fantastic cooks, self-admittedly.)

I don't know what that will be either but I like chicken so we'll see. :D

We have never been disappointed at Hiro's. We are looking forward to the Beer Battered Mahi. We have had it many ways there and it's always been good so we are looking forward to that.

And the shepherd's pie sounds good. I wonder if they'll use taro or something else instead of "regular" potatoes. I made it one year with purple potatoes from our CSA---it looked different, to say the least, but was still very tasty! :D

Yup. I can see the snow from my kitchen window. Thirty miles away and a mile up. And it's fine, staying right there.

Kim had a dentist appointment this morning so I took a walk around the grounds at the Molokai Community Center, beautiful place on a gorgeous day.

I love the way you can got so many things done in one place. I guess on Molokai there is only one place to get things done; the small town of Kaunakakai. That is very convenient.

I am so happy to hear that Kim could get around the town to do things without using the car.

Mahalo, Yes, what a difference a year makes. She was basically able to walk all around the while town. She is extremely happy with her progress. It was a big warm up for next month when we meet our kids in Maui. She has been looking forward to walking Front Street again. Last time she was having issues and it wasn't fun for her.

Yes, Kaunakakai is about all we have here to get anything done. It's small but it has what we need. We are 13 miles away from Kaunakakai so we need our car but once there we park in one spot and walk to were we need to. Kim gets around so much better and she looks forward to Monday 's Ukulele session and drives into town by herself. She loves being able to make a few stops to places around town. I can tell having that freedom back means so much to her.

She even mentioned about wanting to go back to Waikiki now that she is better to walk around to some of the old things she enjoyed while we lived there and also check out the new things there that she has read about.

It's truly a new lease on life for her. shaka

Jeff, Costco is having a tire sales.

Izzi's deals with Costco pretty much exclusively. I haven't bought tires in years. I'm pretty happy with the service I got at Izzi's. I ended out getting Hankook tires. $760 total price installed and tax for all four. Disposal fee was $60 for the 4 old tires and that was included in the $760.

I think that was cheaper than the last time I got tires years ago and those were 17 inch tires also.
