I have 2 spacebanked weeks is it possible to sell these or do they just expire. They have not been exchanged for a resort yet but are in my account at RCI. It would be a shame for these to just expire.

you can give them away to family or friends.. either by transferring to another RCI account. Or by booking a vacation week and having your friend reimburse the exchange and guest certificate fees.

Aren't there some management companies doing just this? They're selling spacebanked weeks at X resort -- I thought there was a company selling spacebanked South African weeks.

There are some brokers who have a contract with resorts to transfer weeks to member accounts. This is usually with SA weeks, since having a Stateside Representative to handle member deposits is convenient. They do occasionally market weeks to non-owners in order to use up extra bulk banked weeks and also as a marketing strategy to encourage those people to purchase ownership at the resorts.

Since this has been set up with the participation of the resorts and RCI, this is considered OK.

The issue here is someone selling weeks on an individual basis. RCI frowns on this, since buyers can be mis-led about the trade value of the weeks, and then blame RCI if they can't get the exchanges they want.

It seems that RCI has once again changed it's policies. Here is the text of a message I received from a broker who once sold spacebank weeks. I received it on July 21, 2004:

Hi All

As many of you know I have been for the past couple of weeks been marketing Spacebanked weeks.

I have just been advised by RCI that they will no longer allow the sale or transfer of Spacebanked weeks to be done by ANYONE – this not only applies to brokers but it applies to timeshare owners as well.

In fact, if the weeks are being transferred from one RCI member to another the owner of the week is liable to having their account with RCI terminated for not sticking to the rules.

Agents/brokers will not be allowed to incorporate a spacebanked week in their sale package deals as well. We have had scare tactics in the past from various sources but from what was discussed with me today this is definitely the end.

For those who have ordered and paid for their spacebanked weeks with me – these will be honoured.

Bootleg,

Please extend your logic to RCI Points. Since a point is a point in RCI Points, why is it not RCI policy to allow renting of RCI Points?

Don't forget that you can pay to extend the week to use later.

Actually, that's not technically correct.

First, if you sell your ownership then, you can include those spacebank weeks without any issue from RCI.

Second, you can sell them, but if you get caught, something bad will happen to you.

You are right. I am planning on selling my 2 timeshares and I have 16 use weeks banked with them. I asked SFX what I can do with the weeks I have banked if I sell my timeshares. They said I can either keep them and use them until they are gone or I can sell them as part of the sale.
