Southwest companion pass question

To qualify for this offer either a round trip or 2 one ways must be purchased on the account by 8/6 flown by 11/18. My question is if buying 2 one ways do they have to be in the same passengers name of can they be booked in 2 different passenger names? I read everything I could find and did not find an answer to my question.

It would have to be the same name. You have to register for the promotion first before booking the flights. So the person who registered is the person who would have to be traveling. Any reservations made before August 3 wouldn’t count. You’d have to cancel those reservations made before 8/3, register for the promotion and then rebook.

also keep in mind any subsequent modifications of the qualifying booked flights breaches the promo - this includes same day changes.

a couple of years ago we jumped on one of these promos and booked the cheapest fares we could find at the "choice" (previously wanna get away +) class. Choice fares include free same day changes. We planned to switch to better flight times on the day of travel, making it a quick out and back. however, after inquiring with SWA, i learned same day change would have violated terms of the promo. luckily there was still time to cancel and rebook the flight times we wanted within the promo period...
 
If you really think you'll use it, you can also book a same day turn. Do a short flight, get off the plane, go to the bathroom and get back on the plane.
 
The free companion seems limited at 1/5 to 3/3/2027 but if the dates work then it's a good deal.

I did that about 5 years ago and it was a good plan until it almost wasn't. Did a late same day turn at BWI with about a 3 hour "layover". Boarded the flight back home and sat on the tarmac for over 45 mins as they had some tech problem they struggled to resolve. I did pack my shaving kit and a change of clothes just in case, but thankfully we eventually took off.

I rarely fly SW these days as they pulled out of my main market. I did recently fly them one way on a trip to burn through some of the points I have remaining. I think I'm under 10,000. Now that they are charging for bags and seemingly higher fares for the flights I've looked, the value isn't really there for me to drive two hours to fly them.

Canceled two reservations and rebooked. We have three round trip flights January-march. Make sure you register for this promotion before you book.
 
I received an email with this offer today and might have a good use for it at the end of February. Checking same day turns out of BUF, ROC, ALB, it appears that it would cost at least $240 to qualify. I think the last time I did this, I was able to do some $39 One Way flights.
 
round trip maui to honolulu 8000 points round trip. considering this option as will have fall promotional companion effective on 8/10. but daughter says it is too hectic to fly and stay at honolulu for a day. but cash price $280 round trip. so look at point redemption to qualify for this promotion
 
Can you use points bookings for the qualifying flights?
 
I just got my summer companion fares based on a R/T flight to Sacramento in February. My wife has the SW Priority cc. I booked flights in August in September quite a while ago using her card for me but was unable to select a better seat because she wasn't on the flight. I just added her to the flights as my companion and paid the taxes with her card. I was then able to select premium seats for both of us.
