Currently at Grand Residence in SLT. Moving to Timber Lodge tomorrow for the weekend as son & gf are driving up from Oakland. Really enjoying our time here (first time) so we are trying to learn more about the properties for future visits. I did a few searches and couldn't easily find this information. Any help greatly appreciated.
  • Does anyone have a map showing which bedroom configurations are in which buildings at GR and TL?
  • What differentiates GR1 and GR2? We can't see any difference. There does not seem to be separate front desks, concierges, pools, etc. Since Marriott apparently bought GR and built TL, maybe there is some ownership difference that requires them to show them separately.
Thoughts so far.
  • Hot tub reservations (30 minutes) at GR handled well. Sign up at 0900 for a slot during day.
  • We are in the "back building" so walk from front desk / valet is long w/ multiple elevators needed. You can also walk around if you don't need elevators for luggage but still a long walk.
  • Village area around both is nice. Starbucks, restaurants, shops, mini golf, etc. very convenient.
  • Casinos are a very short walk on the NV side if that's something you're interested in.
  • Grocery store (Raleys) very short walk to stock up on things.
  • Our studio is very isolated and not connected to anything. Not sure if that is representative of others. It's almost like it was an afterthought.
  • COVID rules still in effect but extremely manageable. No service in room.
  • Laundry is shared and doesn't appear there are many machines. That said, we've done 3 loads (2 separate times) and haven't had any difficulty.
  • Gondola operation doesn't start back up until JUN 18 after we are gone.

We love both of the properties there. I THINK there might be a difference with respect to whether parking is free or fee, but I'm not sure. I personally don't recall ever paying for parking at either TL or GR when we traded in. Go to the taco place across the street, it's great!

GR units vary significantly in size, layout, and potentially lack a washer/dryer while TL units are much more consistent, with the main variables being corner unit, sloping ceilings on top floor, and availability of a balcony.

I have yet to see floor plans for all the GR units and would also like to know the difference between GR1 vs GR2.

The GR units are vastly different at almost every unit so you would need to have a floor plan of every unit.
One tip is that only the penthouse units at the GR have washers and dryers-so if you want in unit laundry either book a PH at GR or go to the TL.

A two bedroom at TL gets 1 free parking pass and a 3 bedroom has 2 free parking passes.
There are only 14 3 bedrooms at TL.

We recently stayed at Timber Lodge in SLT. It was a fantastic stay in a two bedroom lock-out. We were in the Sierra Building, ask for upper floor - pool side. We had one of the few units that has a balcony. It faced the mountains and the pool. We couldn't have been happier with our unit. We ate at the Fire and Ice Restaurant that is right in the Sierra Building. The food, service and location was fantastic. After dinner, within a few steps, you are outside at Heavenly Village.. parking is free for owners. Enjoy your stay - we love SLT.

Thanks for all the responses. Enjoyed the stays at both locations. Slight preference for GR but that is probably because we don't have kids. We'd happily take whatever is available and are already putting reminders in the calendar to try to book a week in early AUG 2022. Additional thoughts:
  • E-bike rental from Vista Trail in Incline Village was good. Trail to Sand Harbor was easy to explore in the 4 hours we had.
  • We did 2 of the 3 Tahoe Tree Top locations (Tahoe City and Tahoe Vista) for ziplines / courses. The 3rd is at Squaw Valley which appears to be only accessible via gondola. We REALLY enjoyed both of them. Staff was professional and you could take on as much adventure as you were comfortable with.
  • Kayak rentals at Camp Richardson went fine. They were a little disorganized at the outset (we rented 1st thing at 0900 when they opened) but gave us full 2 hours from when we got started. Very cool area.
  • Vikingsholm boat cruise (LINK)was great. Left from Round Hill Pines Beach Resort. Since you have to pay $12 to park there, you should plan to go early and stay late. Folks said it gets pretty crowded on weekends, but was fine on a weekday for us. There is a beachside bar, ice cream store and restaurant (Beach Bums). We hung around to eat, drink and watch the sunset after our cruise. Pretty spectacular.
    • We plan to do the Thunderbird cruise with the same company when we come back.
  • DW hiked in Van Sickle Bi-State Park right behind both GR and TL and had a great experience. Got all the way up to the waterfall. Lots of elevation gain to get there.
  • We tried to eat at Brocks Bar and Deck at Edgewood Tahoe (the golf course where they play the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament in JUL each year) but could never make the timing work. Looked fabulous and son had been there last year and wanted to go back.
  • If you have plenty of time and don't want to fight SUN traffic exiting SLT, consider routing to Hope Valley, CA and then over to Stockton if returning to the Bay Area. Very cool scenery including Caples Lake, Red Lake, Kirkwood Mountain, Bear River Reservoir and although we didn't stop, the line around the block for Lockeford Sausage LINK suggests it is very good.
  • DW was very bummed when our hot air balloon ride (takes off and lands from out in the lake) got cancelled due to high winds. We will try again on our next visit.
