Took a walk to Waikiki Beach today. Stopped and got a Dole Whip before I reached the beach. The beach was crowded in spots but open in others. Not much traffic and not too many walking Kalakaua. We have a way to go yet.

The first few pictures are of a new park the city just finished that is across the street from our apartment. It’s the first time I walked through it.

Got a Papaya Shake with Boba and got my wife a Pearl Milk Tea on my way home.

We live three blocks from there and it’s amazing how I don’t get there often. It’s that darn work thing. :D
But don’t take that as me complaining because I’m not.

Yes indeed. Actually I thought there would be more persons on the sidewalk. It's been just over a year since on Oahu. We did manage to get to Hawaii and Kauai in November-December. Hope to be on island end of April.

It can be deceiving. You can be in the middle of a cluster and think it is busy but that cluster is small and then crowds are sparse for blocks. Certain times of the day are like that also. Same with traffic.

Love the video and all the photos. Those shakes and ice cream looks delicious. But where are all the people?

I must say and agree. You are living a dream life. Please continue to enjoy and thanks for sharing that video and photos.

It’s going to be a slower recovery for Hawaii than for the mainland. It will be a while until a lot of people will want to travel and the Japanese market may even take longer. We’ll see.

Really nice pictures thank you for posting them. I guess the arrivals and hotel occupancy are still about 25% of the usual winter arrivals which makes the streets significantly less crowded. I wonder why they are restricting Japanese tourists since Japan has lower infection rates than most of the US. The return of the Japanese tourists would surely raise the arrivals and occupancy of Waikiki.

I just did some on line research on the distribution of coronavirus vaccines in Japan. Japan has just approved the use of some of the available vaccines for use in February. Very few have been vaccinated and there won't be enough vaccine available in Japan until late spring for just the essential workers and senior population. They seem to behind the US in their vaccination program.

Great pictures! I was wondering how things are there now; masks and crowds. I will be there this week for work and hope to have a little time to wonder.

Yes, no restrictions on Japanese tourists, they still have the two week quarantine on returning travelers so that would limit how many people would be willing to do that.

Yep, 25% is about right.
