I wanted to thank Tug for offering this service. I listed my Timeshare on Tug and had an offer within 12 hours. It has been about 4 weeks and we had the transfer of ownership today. We used LT Transfers which was reasonably priced and provided prompt service.

How did I do it. Timeshare is paid off and fees are up-to-date. I paid LT Transfer fees (less than $200 for me). I sold the timeshare for $1 and provided the 2017 timeshare along with the deal as well as offered the 1 week had had banked with Interval. It was a win-win for both of us. Best of all, I should stop receiving offers from questionable companies offering to buy my timeshare or trying to sell me a vacation club.

You think so? Non timeshare owners get those calls, too. They don't know whether you own or not most of the time and dont give a hoot about breaking Federal Do Not Call laws.

Actually he said he paid $200 xfer fees plus current year MFs and a prior year MFs associated with a banked week he transferred. Still a good thing to make happen when you aren't using it or don't want it. He did "pay" to give it away.

not sure I get the distinction?

in order to give timeshares away, its perfectly normal for a seller to pay closing costs plus the current years maintenance fees.

in fact its something we suggest in most circumstances where an owner is looking to give their timeshare away.

No "actually" about it - This was a smart move by the owner, and undoubtably helped him give his timeshare away quickly.

We often see owners who have a hard time accepting the fact that their timeshare has little or no resale value, and instead of being proactive, they offer unattractive terms, and then don't understand why no one is interested.

To add to this ^^^, in my experience, if the deal isn't attractive (e.g. Seller wants Buyer to pay closing costs, etc.) the Buyer moves on, knowing there will be another sale along shortly that does offer better terms. Buyers are drawn to the most attractive deal. So the Seller who wants Buyer to pay for closing or whatever may sit on their deal longer than they want. If the Seller ends up paying another maintenance fee to the resort on what they want to sell, they just lost the equivalent amount of money (or more) than if they'd paid it in the sale in the first place. It boils down to how fast the Seller wants to get out of what they own.

I had success recently too. Sold two, one within minutes of listing it, the second within a day. I paid closing costs and transfer fee for both.

Just this weekend, a friend of my DIL asked me about how to get rid of her timeshare. It was paid off and her MFs were paid for 2017 but she wanted to avoid having to pay 2018. It is a nice enough place but not one of the high end chains but it is a summer week in New England where summer is very, very short. I also own at the same resort so am familiar with prices. I assure you that it has no value except for someone looking for it who will take it for free.

Anyway, I told her what we always say - sweeten the pot with whatever makes it "sell." First offer this, then that, then whatever to make it desirable. She was aghast and just kept saying, "I'm not going to pay someone to take it. I just want out. I am not going to pay closing costs. I just want out." I tried to convince that that is how you get out but she was becoming more and more frustrated and angry with me that I told her to try TUG, Redweek and Ebay and wished her luck. I can also almost promise you that she told my DIL I was either crazy or stupid. You know the old saying - "you can lead a horse to water..."

we see that same reaction all the time from folks!

right before they pay someone to list it at an outrageous price and throw away even more money!

apparently the theory is "I wont pay someone to take it, but ill pay someone to list it for me at a price it wont ever sell for"

Love these success stories. Some timeshares are worth the free price. Others are not worth it, even if they are free. Glad you found someone to take your unwanted week.

You know the old saying - "you can lead a horse to water..."

Not only that, but more aptly, "you can lead a man to data, but you can't make him think".

I like this better than the original quote!:)
Thank you. And, of course, I'm using "man" in its politically incorrect, non-gender specific usage.
