What type of soap/detergent do you take on a trip for hand-washable items?

I'm so used to timeshare units with a washer/dryer I usually don't worry about washing anything by hand. But we've got a trip planned for a couple of weeks and I'm wondering what type of soap to take for a few items I'll rinse out by hand.

Woolite. I bought a travel size bottle years ago, and just keep refilling it. It's only a couple of ounces so will pass TSA carry-on rules as well!

I take it even to units with W/D because I use it to rinse out my swimsuits daily.

I had heard years ago that Woolite was really very harsh, and not good for hand washables. I buy a lingerie soup at Norstrom (also available at Macy's) that I use both at home and on trips. It's a powder so no problem if it goes in a carry-on.

I have heard (don't remember where) that in a pinch shampoo will work. Haven't tried it myself.

I have used a bar of soap then hung the item to air dry but in drug stores or the health/beauty isle in the grocers I have bought sample size packets of woolite or Tide made for that purpose.

I bring sealed bags of detergent with me for the normal laundry.

The diaper soap is called Dreft. Personally I use dishwashing liquid if it is available, and if not I use a bar of Dial Soap. Always works for me.

I use tide soap and also a RIN soap that is available here . Both of these are super efficient and works best for washing dishes , for clothes I always use Ariel detergent whether I am washing clothes in a washing machine or by hands . Hope this helps .

I usually take a small empty travel size bottle from home and fill it up with detergent.

When I forget, I will use a tiny drop of dish washing liquid. It's usually for our bathing suit. I will wet the bathing suit, pour a drop of dish washing liquid detergent on the palm of my hand and rub it together while letting the water pour on my hands onto the bathing suit. I don't put it directly on the bathing suit. Don't wring it too hard and hang to dry in the shower.

I always have a couple of individual packets of Woolite in my toiletry bag. Haven't seen any evidence that it is harsh on hand washables.

Laundry detergent sheets (I use LG Lucky Fij). they’re not liquid or powder, but thick sheets that you can tear off as much as you need & good for hand washing. The only drawback is that they’re scented.

I don't take any soap for hand washables with me - I have used shampoo for years, works great. I use the little mini bottles in the unit because I have it in my head that it should be a clear shampoo, not a white one. If you think about it, shampoo is designed to break down body oils.

I take a small container (I have a travel size that I just keep refilling) of a lingerie soap that I use called Forever New. To be honest though, I don't bring clothing that needs to be hand washed. I try not to bring things that can't go into both the washer AND dryer. I use the lingerie soap for lingerie.

You can get Tide specifically for hand washing in little packets you'll find near the travel-size products in your supermarket. They come in little packs of about 3 or 'em. I don't remember how much they cost. I just keep them and a travel clothesline (twisted elastic with suction cups on the ends) in a laundry bag that always goes with us. Yes it's nice to have in unit laundry, but not always possible when sometimes you cruise, or stay in hotels or VRBOs.

It's always such an attention getter when these really old threads are bumped. I was reading them all as if they were new and then I read Fern's post and my first thought was that someone was using her account (she passed a while ago) or she really wanted to share from beyond. Then I noticed the date.

I usually assume when an old thread like this pops up that it's because some person/group being paid to hype a product on line has found it and wants to shill something. Given that the person who resurrected the thread joined yesterday and "happened" to mention Ariel in a post a 3 a.m. probably confirms it!

Most timeshare resorts normally will provide you with two (2) small boxes of detergent for your week. That is two (2) loads of wash. I normally will bring a small box of Tides detergent, if we bring guests for the week.

I use the dishwashing detergent in the timeshares - like Palmolive.

At home I use Woolite.

I never look at the date of a thread. I come on TUG and lick on What's new. If the subject interests me, catches my eye, I will open it and read/reply.

RIP Fern.
