This is old news for us who live in Hawaii. The states been paying the NFL 5 million per year for the "privledge" of having the pro-bowl. When the contract came-up for renegotiation a couple of years ago the NFL wanted to up that amount to 20 million and the state decided to walk away. I'll miss it because it has been a lot of fun.

Aloha stadium is in dire need of either renovation or just demolition. I personally think the state should build a state of the art stadium on the leeward side of the island and try to capture the Super Bowl here on a yearly basis. It could then be used for concerts, UH games as well as a multitude of other events. I know that's just a pipe dream, but wouldn't it be cool to have the Super Bowl in Hawaii each year?

Too bad, been at KoOlina during that time and it was interesting, also rented a week last year -enough to pay for a beautiful condo at one of the condo developments at KoOlina and a car for a month

Didn't think this year would be good for renting so we are using our weeks ourselves - my favorite hawaiian timeshare

Unfortunately, I sincerely doubt that the Superbowl will ever be held in Hawaii. The NFL rewards its teams with a superbowl and bribes/blackmails the cities to build new stadiums (San Diego won't get another superbowl according to the commissioner b/c the City wouldn't give the Chargers $1B+ worth of land to develop and build a new stadium...)

Also, the logistics of holding a Superbowl there would be next to impossible. If you have ever been to one, the game is a minor distraction to all the corporate events, and tens of thousands of corporate events. The tonnage of support is increadible.

It's not going to be in Miami every year, only in 2010 because the Super Bowl is also there in 2010 and they're testing the idea of having the Pro Bowl the week before the Super Bowl.

Reading the article, it would seem your Hawaii Pro Bowl isn't entirely in jeopardy. I can't ever see the Super Bowl in Hawaii every year, but if a new stadium was built there, and the NFL continues to have the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl in the same city, logic would dictate it would have to end up there at least occasionally.

This experiment could actually really help your Hawaii Pro Bowl weeks because no one I know cares about the Pro Bowl. I travel to several sporting events a year and my friends and I have never even yawned the Pro Bowl. If they can move it around and create some interest, perhaps when it goes back to Hawaii more people will be interested in attending.

It actually sells out and has a fair amount of interest here. Admittedly, a good portion of that interest is from the local population which probably doesn't help the local economy to much.
