This happened to me a few years ago and I'm still kicking myself I didnt go all in. A Tugger ended up winning the auction. I may have bid up to 1k and it was won for just over that. If I had it to do again I would have gone to at least $3,500, possibly 5k. I wonder how much the other guy would have gone to.

An independent TS in New Orleans, with a history of Low MF (below $50ifat the time, if I remember correctly) and crazy points, it may have been in excess of 100k RCI Points. How much would you bid?

One I REALLY wanted had a $1.00 bid, so I went all the way to $1.25.

And, there are 'sniping' sites where you can lock in a max bid and it will make a last-second bid a buck or so higher than the highest bid at that time. In theory, that makes you a winner and not pay any more than you have to.

Do you know exactly what the other bidder's high bid was. While it went for just a tad over $1K, that is only because of how their auction system works. It is possible that the other person actually bid $5000 but since there were no other bids, they got it for just a little over the second highest bid.

I believe eBay has the same function too.

Ebay doesn't have a sniping function. You place a bid and Ebay only increases the bid based on a predetermined amount which is based on the current bid. So I can bid $5000 on a $1 item and it will show $1.25 as my high bid. But I've bid $5000. Someone can come along and bid 20 times to run up my bid. If I use a snipping service, they can't do this. I place a bid with the snip of $5000 and it comes in in the last few seconds of the auction to place my bid. No one can run up the price based on my high bid.

Would have gone to $500 for the 1 I wanted, which comes up on eBay rarely if ever.

Went to $250 for the 1 settled for.

So it goes.

I've bid and won three different timeshares on ebay. In each case I placed my bid about 10 or 15 seconds before the close of the auction and put in a bid several hundred dollars more than the current bid. In one case that caused someone else to up the bid a couple of times before the clock ran out. But I think that my competition was manually entering the increased bid so, each time he spent perhaps 5-10 seconds upping the bid and then the clock ran out.

Back when Worldmark was going for 25 cents to 35 cents per Credit/Point I put in a Bid of $700 on a 7,000 fully loaded Worldmark Account on EBAY. Must have been a slow/bad night -- I won.

I just put in the highest amount I am willing to pay, and leave it. Ebay sends me emails to up my bid to ensure I remain the highest bidder, but I resist. Recently, I bid a high of $359 for a week that went to me for $320.

I did use a third party snipeing tool, but didn't give it the consideration it deserved. The other party knew the value and bid enough to win. I may go back and look for that PM to see who it was, but if you come across this thread, please tell us how much was your high bid :)

I use gixen and place up to $1000 on a timeshare that I want. If the price gets over $500 I might retract my bid. We might go for another membership this year.

There is one unit out there for me, the white whale of timeshares, that if I came across an auction I'd outbid by $5k or more if I had to. Its a week 17 Marriott Maui Ocean club fixed unit 11th floor OF Lahaina Towers unit where I already own that exact unit for weeks 15, 16 and 18.

Well I just paid $570 for HGVC The District. I own there already and really like it, so 11,250 additional points works well for me. Still waiting on ROFR.
? eBay auction or redweek or TUG marketplace.
? EY or EOY
That's a crazy low price

Waaaay less than $0.00, net-net.

I won an eBay auction in my perfect timeshare system last May that netted-out to $13,000 of free, prepaid usage at my 2025 mf rates.

I recently won an eBay auction that should net-out to $6,500 of free, prepaid usage, if the ownership transfers in June, $7,000 if it transfers in July.

In both cases the seller paid all closing and transfer costs, plus the maintenance fees until the ownership transfers.

I use ezsniper and pay about $2 per bid. It's well worth it, but I am not allowed to buy timeshares anymore, unless it's Val Chatelle in Frisco, and it has to be a prime week.

I did buy Hono Koa a few times on ebay for just a few hundred bucks, closing costs included. I would love to get rid of those weeks now. The fees are very high.

? seller
Examples of such listings (haven't seen district listings there)...
? common
? Usual selling price
? Any such active listings now
Sorry, newbie Qs...
Nope, spotting The District on eBay is a rarity. I have seen a few listings before, but they were loaded up with fees. This one was not. There was a $400 closing cost, which is a little high, but not too bad considering the price I got it for. I would expect a listing like this to be in the $2000-$5000 range. There is one out there now with a $1 opening bid and no bidders as yet, but they are attaching about $1200 in fees on top of the final bid.

I had looked many times but had not seen any on eBay & hence the ask...
Also did not see much at TUG marketplace or at Redweek.
Even at $2k, it is still >90% off retail
Kudos for the awesome deal to you!
Learning a lot, as a newbie & Grateful for all of you!

If my perfect timeshare came available, I would bid much higher than my normal $1.25....prolly in the thousands but hope it went for less..... as of now I don't know what timeshare that would be..... However, if I knew it was a specific week at a specific low maintenance resort, perhaps a specific unit that I really wanted,,,,I would definitely make a high bid if I could at the time. What that amount would be would depend on my budget at the time, I assume...but I would know that that was my unicorn and bid accordingly.
