Just curious if anybody has gotten a Platinum RCI upgrade yet.

Is this a perk that's overpromised and underdelivered?

If you got an upgrade was it in points or weeks? :)

We got an upgrade this summer at Dolphin's Cove Resort in Anaheim from a 2Br to a 3Br unit. This was a weeks exchange

got an upgrade this summer in Hilton Head.....1BR to 2BR unit at Seacrest.:whoopie:

Not a single one for us. We were starting to think this was fiction. :D

Nice. And during the summer no less. :whoopie:

Cool was this a summer week too. Was this a weeks or points exchange?

That's cause all you want are DVC upgrades. :p

Trying to decide if this is worth paying to upgrade.

So is that all the upgrades? That's it?

The problem I have is I always book the 2 or 3 bedrooms so no chance of upgrades.

KT

I usually do too but if I thought my chances were good of an upgrade in the overdeveloped areas like Orlando then it might be worth the risk of booking the 1 bedrooms.

When you consider that there's usually plenty of larger unit inventory available when you book far in advance (but far less [and often none] closer in) and a larger unit is usually only 2-3 TPU more than a smaller unit, I think it makes sense to just use the extra TPU up front and have peace of mind.

I agree.

So basically other than free guest certificates and access to hotels Platinum is not looking like it's worth it unless you're doing lots of sharing of your weeks.

I've never joined as I suspected most of the inventory would be hotels, which we probably wouldn't use too often. And I don't use gift certificates enough to warrant the annual fee.

But, there are a few nuggets I've heard, like the Attina (sp?) in NYC. Also, appears Platinum members get notices of special deals a day or two ahead of the rest of us.

However, I'm still not convinced it's worth it for us--might be for others.
Meanwhile, I'm in the 'wait-n-see' mode for a while.

The discounts on guest certificates, combine fees and extra vacations are the most tangible benefits -- if you do a combination of about three of any of those, it pays for itself. The undocumented benefit of getting an extra day on some sales can be nice if you do many last minute trips. The Priority Access inventory can be nice if the inventory is something you could use (like Affinia in NYC). An upgrade would be incredible (and perhaps worth several years membership), but I think the odds that I'll ever see one is pretty small, because I almost always book 2BR units.
