Is a snow thrower the same as a snow blower?

I brought the cheaper plastic gas model (pull rope) with the electric plugin also. My contractor guy LAUGHED at it - asking me who BS'ed me at buying that toy. Told him I could throw it onto my pickup truck by myself and it had to be better than using a shovel.

It was easy to use. Start it at home with electric, ran it to dig out of my house, and it was an real easy pull then as I did other sidewalks, etc.

My contractor guy in his regular pickup truck get stuck in my driveway as I was doing the other end. He started using his snow shovel to dig himself out of 8+ inches. I calmly moved my "toy" over to his truck and proceed to dig his "male-ness" out. His opinion changed by 180 degrees. He comes over and claims the "toy" if there is more than 2" of snow.

They run around $350-399 at Home Depot. Be sure to buy the one with the electric plug and little red starter button. Yes, that still has a rope pull - but it goes on one pull after it is warmed up. Does use the oil/gas mixture.

Check Craigslist

I would check Craigslits in your area as well. I think a lot of people buy them, use them for a season, and then decide that they need the money back more than the snow blower.

From my experience, alway get an electric starter, get one that runs on gas because you don't want to run over the extension cord while using the machine and do not get the top of the line model. If you have a problem, as I did last year with the piston, it may be too expensive to repair. I would also suggest checking out Sam's Club or Sear's (when it has a sale).

Finally, make sure you stay friendly with neighbors who have snow blowers, so that when yours or theirs breaks, there is a backup.
