I own 2 timeshares and am considering buying a third at smugglers notch.
the one that I was offered is a white week in a Two bedroom. I was wondering if anybody could help with advice with owning at smugglers notch and what the resale value for a white week would be worth so i do not over pay. Maintenace fees are high. Anyone know anything about the resort changing to points.

thanks in advance

Hi SSTOCHEL,

I am a Smugglers Notch owner. Something seems odd about your potential purchase. Smuggs generally sells timeshare weeks in twos (or fours for the major ski season holidays) where you would receive one very prime red week (summer or winter) and a float week that varies every year. The float week could be red (fall foliage season and late spring), white or blue depending on the particular week for that year. They have sold individual red ski season weeks to sell more winter weeks because winter does not sell as well as summer. I have not ever seen an individual white week for sale.

Smuggs is a great place for families. The maintenance fees are high because they provide a lot of activities for children, adults and families. SOme of the activities are free for owners (summer camps for kids, evening entertainment) and some have fees.

New units at the resort are being sold in RCI points. Older units have the option to convert (at a fairly significant cost -- roughly $3,000 for two weeks, additional weeks are a lot less). I believe about 15% converted during the first conversion period. There is a second conversion period occuring right now. Many people have not converted to points because the float week, even if it is white or blue, can pull some decent weeks in RCI. White and blue weeks will not pull prime time at Smuggs so some people have converted to try to get more trades into Smuggs.

I will be happy to answer any more questions that you have.

What Would You Say Is A Fair Price. I Actually Saw The Deed.

seems odd

definitely doesn't sound right. Though Smuggs have sold different 'packages' over the years.
what week number is it, and what unit number?

Check the calendar carefully and look at the Smuggs.com website - most, if not all, white weeks fall in 'off season' periods where most/all of the smuggs facilities/activites are not available.
It would be a shame to buy a week and find you cannot use the resort as you would want to.
Hwever, if you only want to use the week to trade it may be OK for you.

Check redweek.com to get an idea of the asking price for red summer/winter weeks (note, the weeks may not actually sell at this price). A white week shoudl be a lot less.

Also, you could phone Smuggs directly and ask to speak to Owner Services. They are very friendly and woudl be able to check that the week/unit for sale is legit.

Smugglers Notch - Valuation

The unit in question was purchased over 25 years ago and has been verified with the resort. Is there a way to log on in the smuggs owner page to talk to some owners. The unit is in the village center and is mainly to be used to trade via rci into smuggs during the time of year we can actually go and enjoy. I am just trying to find out a rough estimate of how much this week is worth i.e. $2,000 or $ 3,000 or is it worth only $ 100.00.
As most owners know that buy from developers what we pay for timeshares is not what we can get for it at time of sale. I just do not want to be stuck with something knobody will want to buy if I decide to sell down the line.
BTW - how are the units in the village center would they be recommended or would you keep away from them

thanks Steve

there is no 'forum' on the smuggs owners page (and you only get a log in once you have purchased a unit).
There is an active Yahoo group of owners which you can join if you are considering buying. Type 'smuggs' into the yahoo groups seach and there is a button to press to join the group. You will get answers to all yuor questions there.

i'm not sure that a white week will allow trades back into smuggs at peak times via RCI as easily as it used to. We don't use our weeks that way, but others will be able to help you there. If you can travel last minute and are able to use dates not during school vactions you may be OK though.

Most of the units in the village centre are older ones. Not to everyone's liking but we have stayed in a couple and they are convenient location, but seem a bit dated in design (although furniture/appliances etc will have been renewed every 5 years or so). smuggs.com has floor plans & photos of every type of unit.

what is the unit number on the deed? (will be something like MV4, TA23, N2 etc). from this we can tell you what building the unit is in.

V would be Villmarksauna building. Haven't stayed in there, but it looks nice and is in a good position.

By the way, welcome to the Smuggs Yahoo group. Hopefully you will get all the answers you need from the many knowledgable owners there!

Interiors of Villmark have been refurbished and the units are actually quite large. Location is perfect IMO, on flat ground, easy walk to village, but not in the middle of too much action. The halls/stairwells to get to the units are a bit off putting, (dark) but who spends time in the hall anyway? Can't speak to the rest of the situation, but I don't think a white week will get you easy trades to anyplace.

smuggler's Notch

For the Owners who earn A red week and a floating White Week have you been able to trade back in to smugglers with the white week and if so for a summer week

I often see off season units there for $299 a week on the RCI government sites, if that helps.

See if this posts right for the first week in Nov. Also, check the RCI site for extra vacation time, which should be cheaper.

1 Bedroom 11/2/2007-11/9/2007 6 4 Full $299.00

2 Bedroom 11/2/2007-11/9/2007 8 6 Full $299.00

2 Bedroom 11/3/2007-11/10/2007 8 6 Full $299.00

Studio 11/4/2007-11/11/2007 4 2 Partial $299.00

Studio 11/4/2007-11/11/2007 4 2 Full $299.00

1 Bedroom 11/4/2007-11/11/2007 4 4 Full $299.00

1 Bedroom 11/4/2007-11/11/2007 5 4 Full $299.00

1 Bedroom 11/4/2007-11/11/2007 6 4 Full $299.00

2 Bedroom 11/4/2007-11/11/2007 6 6 Full $299.00

2 Bedroom 11/4/2007-11/11/2007 8 4 Full $299.00

2 Bedroom 11/4/2007-11/11/2007 8 6 Full $299.00

3 Bedroom 11/4/2007-11/11/2007 10 8 Full $299.00

That time might be too weak to be a good trader.

My friend own a quarter share 16 weeks) has has been having a harder time with any time trades than previously. But has been able to rent in top season easily

Smugglers Notch

Ken,

My main question really is the following. Usually the typical week at smugglers notch is a red week either winter or summer time and an April or October week. My offer is for only a white week.
Rci say's owners have first digs over other Rci owners. What do smugglers owners do with their white weeks.
If I try and trade via rci to get into smuggs do red summer weeks go on the market occasionally I imagine I will have to be flexible but just want to know the likelihood of an exchange. I believe my week is in April

Thanks Steve

I suppose the weeks listed above are off color (not red).

I assume owners give those weeks to RCI, and thats why they are listed for $299 a week. I know I can't find April 08 weeks listed...so I can't tell how many units RCI has to TRY TO GET RID OF.

You realize, that when RCI (or II) needs to get rid of overage of weeks....how strong a trader could that week be?

I'm not an owner there. I hoped the tug members that are could directly tell you its a strong week, an OK week or a weak week.

Have you checked e bay, or www.myresortnetwork.com or even www.redweek.com and tried to find pricing for that time? (Maybe even tug classifieds)

If I could rent a week there for $299 in the 'mud' seasons, would that be less than maintance? I really think they sell the 2 weeks and give one in the weaker time period because it moves weaktime product and keeps all the weeks listed for maintance fees and taxes.

Slim to none and none just left town. If you want a summer week buy a summer week, than you will get a summer week.

This thread is really old, but can you clarify on the weeks side? What constitutes a decent trade for a white or blue week? We might be buying and getting an additional floater and it would be good to know the trade value. I realize this is years later. I wonder if many are still "weeks".
