I just got a smart TV LG I have Wi Fi in the house. What I would like to know if I use the internet should I use the wi fi or just get another modem and run the TV off the modem I already have a laptop and I pad using the Wi FI

Try it with wifi first. Unless there are too many walls between the TV and the router it should work fine. Would you ever be streaming video to the TV at the same time someone is streaming video to the laptop and iPad? What kind of internet service do you have, cable/DSL? Do you know the max download rate of your internet service?

You should be fine with wifi, I have an LG TV and it works great streaming Netflix, Amazon, and from my LG Smartshare NAS. We have two computers, two ipads, two iphones and xbox all streaming off the same router. The router makes the biggest impact after your internet service, I have a Netgear Dual Band.

I have a cable Modem not sure what the max download is and I am lucky there are no walls between the office and front room it is just one big open doorway. What you are saying makes good sense and like you say if there is an issue then I go with a router Thanks

This site makes it easy to test your download speed:

They just upgraded our Comcast internet and now it's almost 4 times faster. It worked fine for streaming to the TV when it was only 25000 kbps

Download Speed: 90292 kbps (11286.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 6068 kbps (758.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
