I've bought a couple of Marriott weeks on eBay. I guess I have been lucky, but most of them closed in about 60 days.

I purchased one on February 1st that still hasn't transferred to my account.

The title company has been pretty flakey, but I can see that the deed was recorded as of April 22nd. The closing company says it's been in Marriott's hands to transfer since them.

1) Is anyone else experiencing really slow transfer times? Shouldn't it have transferred by now?
2) Is there anything I can do? I know I'm annoying the closing agent. However, it's now been 60 days since Marriott allegedly has had the deed.
3) Can I submit a transfer myself to Marriott with the copy of the deed? I would assume that I would need to pay the transfer fee to Marriott (I assume it's $95)

Any other recommendations?

I also purchase a Marriott still waiting for them to transfer.
We ask for and up date from them , they sent an email back that say please don’t inquire for at least 30 days are more.

@travelhacker it could be a Marriott issue. Sounds like it fell through the cracks. Also, stop buying timeshares....... except for when I list my RV at Mass

My most recent one took 6 weeks from date they received transfer request from title. This was April to June 2021.

I am sure that staffing is an issue as it is in most industries. They likely laid off a lot of staff at the start of the pandemic and are slow to bring them back. That is, if they can even get them back. Transfers have always been the long pole, there is really no incentive to prioritize those above things like phone calls and owner complaints.

I have two sales in closing, both Hawaii. One started in April and one in March. One of which I bought in Oct-Nov and flipped didn't fully transfer until March.

These should fund this week or next, though the weeks are not yet showing in their new accounts.

Both have been delayed for months due to staffing and process issues, e.g., work at home agent didn't pickup the Hawaii files on schedule. Particularly staffing problems seem to existing the in the estoppel department and the transfer department, from what my closing agents tell me...and likely to get worse as some are seeing more folks resign. Volumes are up, but staffing and working from home has had a huge impact on closing times....or more specifically getting the weeks moved between accounts, even after all the legal stuff is complete.

On the upside, ROFR waivers were returned within days.

Hi , I think that the new money coming in from new owners should be number one to these timeshare companies.

I think I’ll give it another week before I start getting nervous.

Worst case scenario, if this closing company drops the ball, how hard would it be to wrap up the transfer on my own?

If it's been 2 full months I'd say it's very unlikely this is simply due to the MVC transfer process. It's very likely that it was not sent to them right away or less likely there is a problem. Personally, if you've received nothing from MVC, I'd contact Owner Modication to see what's going on. Just tell them the Title company says they've had it for 2 months and you're inquiring what's going on. My experience is that I get an email directly from them that the internal records have been updated a few days before it shows up on the website. When that happens I'm pretty sure that you can still call and make reservations by phone.

Thanks so much for this advice. The closing company forwarded me a response from owner modification that said it’s still in progress, but now I’ve got some contact information that I can use to follow up in a couple of weeks if necessary.

Let us know how it goes, we're all hoping it gets done soon. Did the info tell you when it was actually sent to MVC?

Sadly, no. They told me April 22nd, but now I’m thinking it was probably at least a couple of weeks after that, since others have reported that theirs have completed.

It was at least a relief that the email that I was forwarded did have all the correct information on it and came from Marriott, so I am feeling more optimistic about it closing at some point.

Sometimes sellers can seriously delay the sale and transfer of their Timeshare property because they are lax in having their signatures notarized and returning the completed paperwork. . Additionally, some of the sellers no longer live in the same household, so one signs (and has it notarized) on their day off, then sends the paperwork to the next owner who then goes thru the same process. All this takes time which adds up, and some of these delays are caused by either the sellers or the closing company and Marriott may be an easy target to blame for the delays.

Good News! I was notified that the transfer was completed. I logged into my account, and I didn't see it anywhere. I thought "Uh oh, maybe created a new account rather than an existing account". However, I found the contract in the "Account > Maintenance Fees / Club Dues" link from the top. I also see it if I go to "Use Weeks > Enroll Week(s)".

The one thing that is odd is that it shows the Purchase Type as Internal rather than external (I did not purchase from Marriott):

I do not see it when I go to "Use Weeks > Reserve Weeks". I thought that all weeks displayed there even if you couldn't make any reservations

Any ideas on why I don't see it there?

It is an EOY Odd week. Perhaps it didn't come with usage?

Perhaps there's a back end process that needs to take place so that it shows up in that list and I can make a reservation?

Any other thoughts? Should I wait another day or two and then contact transfer services?

Thanks all!

I have bought quite a few resale weeks over the past few years, and each time I have seen the same phenomenon you are seeing now... Before the week shows up under the "reserve weeks" page, it shows up as an "Internal" week in the "Enroll my Week" menu. The first time this happened I was hopeful that MVC perhaps made a mistake and I'd be able to enroll the week, but alas I think it is just a weird reflection of whatever is happening on the back end to transfer the week into your account. Give it a few days and it will show up as "External" and will also show up in your portfolio on the other pages.

Thanks soooo much!

With other weeks I received notice that the transfer was complete weeks after I could see it in my account from the Use Weeks > Reserve Weeks link, so I had never really poked around in other areas to see the process unfold.

I was really hoping someone could confirm that this was normal and you came through.

Hello,

I am experiencing the same thing with the three properties I am purchasing. The timeshare specialist is telling me it takes 30 business days which is 6 weeks.

Hi travelhacker, are you able to see your week under "Use Weeks > Reserve Weeks" now? My resale week got transferred today and I cannot see it under "Use Weeks > Reserve Weeks" too.

anilnagori, as sdp1969 mentioned, it takes about 30 business days for the week to show up on the "Reserve Weeks" page after Marriott receives the new deed information. However, as Wahoo mentioned, it does show up on the "Enroll my Week" page shortly before it shows up on the "Reserve Weeks" page. This is what happened to us with a recent purchase. Enjoy your new ownership! CJ

Got it. Thanks! My escrow agent got an email today that the transfer is complete. It took 3.5 weeks for the transfter after MVC received the ownership transfter packet. I expect to see the week under "Reserve Weeks" pages soon.

In my experience, the first place it will show up is in on the "Maintenance Fee/Club Dues" page under the "Accounts" tab as one of the resorts under your ownership. Makes sense that they prioritize the tab to facilitate your payment of Maintenance Fees.
