OK - I just got the webcam - Logitech 9000 - I had a cheap one before but it had no microphone so it was basically useless. My sister has one and I am going to get one for both my kids who have children so we can talk and see the grandchildren!! Any other users out there?? Are there any hints or tips you have for me.

I read somewhere that you can get a headset that plugs into the USB = why would you need that??

That you might want to use it in a noisy environment, or have a more private conversation would be a couple reasons that come to my mind. Or that you- or the recipient- just doesn't like the sound of a speakerphone.

There are other handsets- some work without even a computer- but with a wi-fi connection- sold on the Skype website.
