I just wanted to add my thanks to whoever first mentioned this car rental company. We're going to Fort Lauderdale in January and I like to get my reservation early (and watch for any reductions). Everything was really expensive. Sixt has a Rav4 for a total of $227 a week, hundreds less then other rental companies.

I love tug!

I have found Sixt to be very practical also, but the prices do fluctuate rapidly. During my five week stay in So./SW Florida (Jan. 31-Mar. 6) the cost of my Ford Escape Limited was $600.00.:cheer: I presently have a reservation with them for two weeks around Labor Day (Toyota Camry for $218.69 and that's going to be hard to beat). I did have them for two weeks around Memorial Day but Sunshine edged them out (Toyota Corolla for $268.78) for now.

Sixt is a major car rental player in Europe, and I have used them a number of times. However, they were booked through a consolidator rather than directly. I have always been satisfied with my rentals with them and the price was good. They are one of the few car rental companies which do not award air miles on cheaper rental rates, at least in Europe, so if that matters, you need to be aware of it. The number of miles involved on car rentals in the last few years is usually negligible anyway.

I just returned from Florida, where we rented from Sixt in Fort Lauderdale. Our reservation was for a compact car. Upon arrival we did the typical paperwork. The Rep. then walked us out and pointed to a Ford Expedition. She hit the key bob show us what car it was. I asked a couple of times, "which car is it?" I could not believe it when she tried to tell me this was an upgrade. I laughed and said there's no way were driving that down to the Keys, I reserved a compact and that's what we want. It was just my husband and me, so that's all we needed. She took us back inside and started looking for another car. She said we would have to wait for a compact. I saw a Nissan Sentra on the lot and said we would take it. She gave us the Nissan. She then warned us not to be even a few minutes late returning the car, because we would be charged for another day and if we did not return it with a full tank they charged $8.00 a gallon.

Needless to say we were not late and returned the car with a full tank of gas. It really bothered me that she processed the paperwork and did not mention this great upgrade. She just wasted our time, as we had to go back in and process a new set of paperwork.

In the end everything turned out alright, but I would not use them again.

The exact thing happened to me at the beginning of my five week venture. I had reserved a small SUV ($600 - Rav4, Escape, etc), but the girl tried to give me a Ford Explorer, actually more than one. I tried to explain I did not need the larger vehicle and wouldn't take it. Then she tried to give me a Chevy Transverse (three rows of seats) and I said absolutely not. I saw a Silver Escape sitting there and said I will take that one, they could not find the keys............soooooooooooooo....they finally found the keys to IT, she operated the controls at the office door and said that's it. I said thank you, she redid the paper work and I took my luggage and went to the Silver Escape, it would not open but I heard the Red Escape around back which is what the keys were actually for. Now this was a very nice vehicle, new, leather and power so I was happy. No threats of any kind from the staff. The operation at Sixt is not polished but it will do as long as they have the best price and good vehicles. My note above describes the deals I have gotten so I will use them again because they are conveniently located off the airport property. BTW, when I got home from my trip they had sent me a Sixt Express membership card and a credit voucher for $10!:)

Last I experienced some years ago, Sixt (and Kemwel) really shine with low rates for car rentals in Europe.

Good to know. I just booked with them for a rental in the UK. FYI, they offer a discount for SPG gold/platinum members (or perhaps for all SPG). It's been a while since I drove on the left side of the road, so I'm taking it easy by reserving an automatic... ;)

You're welcome! I was my DH that found them - we are going to BPT this Fall, and he does things really early. No, they are not everywhere - but if there is one where WE want to go, that is all we need. We also are getting Rav4, I think - three of us, two of whom have had joint replacements.

We just rented from them for $140.00 for 8 days in Spain, and that included picking it up in Malaga and turning it in in Madrid. Pretty cheap! The liability insurance was included in that cost, and we used American Express for the insurance on the vehicle itself.
