My Dell sound is off. Video is fine. I rebooted. Nada. Checked the soun to be sure Mute is not checked. Ran diagnostic on the Soundcard. OK. Even l checke dto see all the cables are plugged in. Before I panic, what am I missing? I hope it is something simple because I hate to think I need a new soundcard(and the diagnostic said Creative Labs works fine)

How about volume levels? Is the sound turned all the way down? Speakers plugged into the right socket? External powered speakers turned on and volume turned up? Try going into Sounds in the Control Panel and test things there. Try playing different kinds of audio files (WAV, CD audio, etc.) Reinstall audio driver? It may be something very simple.

Good luck,
Dave

Or does anyone else have their headset plugged into PC? That has happened to me.

ok, the Mac fanboi answer works here in this thread.

Too bad you don't have a Mac. Nothing ever breaks on a Mac. Also, people that own Macs are generally much happier, richer and have a better sex life than PC owners.

I thought I'd heard that having sex with your computer was illegal  what will those people at Apple think of next?
