Significant Marriott Price Increase

Dear Valued Marriott Owner,

Our most significant price increase since the launch of the new Destinations Points program will happen on Thursday, 11/3/2011.

If you have kicked around the idea of purchasing additional DESTINATIONS CLUB POINTS, now would be the time to give it great consideration.

Think about this….our last period (4 weeks) our Vacation Owner Advisors reserved over 5 million points of owner vacations just in our Explorer Collection. Every time an owner books a tour or a cruise, that leaves more Villas available for other owners.

With winter upon us, owners are purchasing additional Club points to travel to warm destinations during peak winter seasons. (I just had and owner purchase the package below as the family Christmas present to get out of the cold) Points are available to book starting January 1.

We no longer deal with “seasons” and sizes when using points to make reservations. With Club points you choose any time of year, any resort, any size, any check-in day, any view. More points are needed per night on holidays and peak seasons, less points for off-season. Likewise, larger rooms are more points per night than smaller ones. How easy it that?

Example: a 3 bedroom villa at Lakeshore Reserve Sunday through Friday right now is only 375 points per night. It drops to 250 points per night the first 3 weeks of December.

Caribbean cruises for two start at 2100 points.

Eight day escorted tours for two with deluxe accommodations, tour guides, and meals start at 4000 points.

ADD NOW - Last Chance at 2010-2011 Pricing!!!

We have a tremendous owner special running now through Wednesday ONLY! See below:

2000 Points

$20,440 ($10.22 per point)

Special owner rollback to 2010 opening price ($9.20 per point) through Wednesday:

$18,440 Your Purchase Price! Save $2,040.00!

NOTE: Depending on the state and country in which you live, you may be eligible for additional purchase incentives. You must contact me to analyze your account.

Down Payment Only: $2195 Credit/debit card.

Closing Costs approx. $850 (can be financed)

Monthly Payment only $274! with closing costs rolled in.

120 mo finance term.

Annual Maint/taxes: $.40 per point

Annual Club dues: $165. Includes an Interval International Membership. No additional fees if you stay within the Marriott brand ie; no exchange fee, no lock-off fees, no cancel fee, no guest certificate fee no fee to convert to reward points, even on your legacy weeks.

Transactions can be started by Fax and Email. HOLD YOURS NOW with a deposit before Thursday.

Isn't it odd? They warn of a hefty price increase, beyond last year's hefty price increase, and then offer a drop to the original pre-pre-price increase price. Do you honestly think we've seen the last of $9.20/point?

It's human nature for people to jump at "sales," especially if they are perceived as "bargains." Although I am allergic to paying retail, I'm not so sure I'd be running to take advantage of this "special deal," though.

We are going to Grand Vista this Thursday (right now, my husband is outdoors dealing with the SNOW we got here in upstate NY last night - actually, we were lucky - never lost power). So yesterday, as predicted, a lovely young lady called our house to set up a meeting to discuss "the new Points system". I told her that we were already conversant with it. She them put things into second gear - about how there was MORE to know, and that we would receive a gift of reward points (I never even asked how many) - and then I told here that we NEVER EVER attend one of these meetings or presentations again - there was nothing, at no amount, they could offer us. She was aghast - and asked why? I told her (and all this took less than 2 minutes, start to finish) that we did not intend to spend vacation time being lied to, pressured and manipulated. Her counter - nobody is going to try to sell you WEEKS. My response - of course not, you sell POINTS now, don't you? She quit trying . . .

So, folks, I stuck to my guns as a charter member of the Never Again Club, founded right here on this list. If I get ONE PHONE CALL while I am there, there will be the Devil to play - but I suspect that such a call WILL come. Drat.

All of these price increases and they will STILL sell you points for the 6/20/2011 price of $9.20pp.

I have found the easiest way to not be bothered by long phone calls is to let them know you are traveling alone. They have no interest in setting up a sales meeting unless your spouse is with you, and that ends phone call.:cheer:

I received an unsolicited email from a salesperson at MVCI corporate informing me that prices are going up $3k and that I had better jump now. It also said that if I acted now I will still be eligible for the 800 point bonus.

I replied that based upon what I read on TUG from others that enrolled (and those that did not), that I wasn't interested. I added that many people have been disgruntled at their inability to extend the 800 point bonus and that the promises of using points to simply book where and when they wanted has so far been another unfulfilled promise.

I'm still waiting to hear back.

When even the outstanding Manor Club units are being GIVEN AWAY now how can they possibly think any retail purchase of any type makes financial sense? They are truly preying on the uninformed now.

ANY money paid for retail timeshare or points is wasted and lost. You may as well give it to the PCC's as the value is no different.

$274 a month for 120 months is over $33,000 0ver 10 years plus a $2195 downpayment costing a buyer over $35,000 for something YOU CAN NEVER SELL! Who would even consider this?

Who would even consider this?

It seems at every one of our annual visits to MOC, while floating in the shallow end of the pool, talking to other floaters, there are newly purchasers into the program. I've even seen them on the plane with Marrriott sales packages. There is a never ending, although maybe diminishing stream of customers. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out...

I would think most people caught up in the dream they paint, never even consider that they might have to sell one day. After all its a gift you can give to your children and grandchildren.

During our presentation at Oceana Palms on the 2nd, we were told the price would be increasing to $10.96pp on the 3rd. Though I am sure they will still be offering their "Anniversary Special" where you can buy points for the original $9.20 if you bought at least 2000 or so.

Very much true. During a recent stay at the fabulous St Kitts property we sat down to breakfast next to a couple that was very excited about their shoulder season purchase. They were talking about all of the places in the world they were planning to exchange for.

I wonder if reality has set in yet.

I remember that warm, fuzzy feeling after purchasing gold weeks from developer (before we discovered TUG)...and then finding out later we weren't going to trade into Ocean Point in March or Myrtle Beach in June with what we owned. We travel mostly off season so we're making it work and enjoy our vacations immensely but we should have bought 1 Platinum vs. 2 Gold weeks (well actually we should have bought resale).
