All,

Will Hilton let you rent a tiny number of points if you're short? As TUGgers know, I'm trying to go to HHV in mid-February at Open Season rates.

I'm currently holding 3 nights in a 1BR+ at Lagoon Tower -- and if Saturday night opens up (February 18), I'm 20 points short of being able to add that night. Argh. Will Hilton let me rent them on a one-time basis like Wyndham and Worldmark will?

Either way, I'm hoping Sun-Tues are there on Open Season, so this is still a little dicey -- but trying to understand my options. I may end up with a split -- at HHV for a few days then Ko Olina for a few days.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Best,

Greg

You may borrow points from the next two years in your account, but you can't rent them from someone else. There was another thread about this recently.

Yep, it's pretty easy once you login. Grab the day as a reservation change and it'll tell you where the points are coming from. Nothing special you have to do to make it work.

Well, I suppose you have to log in to make it work, which has become a festivus feat of strength. Good luck!

Drat - thanks all for the thoughts....but unfortunately (for me), 2013 points are also borrowed and utilized.....so....if no ability to rent 20 points, it looks like I'm betting on Open Season for all 4 nights!

Thx kindly -- and looks like I need to buy another HGVC points package!

Best (and Happy New Year!),

Two years out to borrow takes you out to 2014, not 2013. Maybe that changes things for you?

I appreciate the thought, but I don't think I can start borrowing 2014 until April 1st, when I'd be 9 months out from 2013 - but maybe there is a trick that I don't know?

Any chance of getting a 1 bdrm garden view?

I'm hoping for one of those too -- really hoping for any availability to tack on to the front 3 nights...

Thanks very much!

Greg

If the MF's were due January 1, the points should be available January 1 as well. Maybe the newb syndrome is still hanging around.

You can only borrow from next year's points

I think there is some confusion....

You can only borrow from next year's points and borrowed points can't be used for Home week reservation.

For Example:
In 2012, you can make reservations for 2012 stays and 2013 stays.

When you're making a reservation this year for a 2012 stay, you can only borrow from 2013.

When you're making a reservation this year for a 2013 stay, you can only borrow from 2014.

From the 2012 HGVC Members Guide:
"Borrow: Members may borrow any number of their next year’s ClubPoints, or previously Club Deposited points, to make Home Resort, Club, ClubPartner Perk or RCI Exchange reservations in the current year. Borrowed points may not be used to make a Home Week reservation. If ClubPoints are borrowed, Home Week reservation rights during the Home Week reservation period for the year in which the ClubPoints were borrowed are relinquished.
(NOTE: Home Week is different than Home Resort which applies to W57th St owners only).

I hope this helps :)

I have tried to prove you wrong but to no avail! :crash: You are absolutely correct. The only thing that I can do (currently) with my 2014 points is an RCI exchange.

Forget about it -it's one thing that Worldmark has over HGVC. I had the same situation and ended up splitting my reservation - part points and part open season cash. The front desk was very accomodating about making sure that we didn't have to change suites - the key card did stop working and I got locked out during the "changeover" day, but that was a minor hassle.

I thought I understood this, but now I am confused. If I have 2012 points and want to make a 2013 reservation, and do it before the end of 2012, can I do that, or do I have to rescue those points first? I thought that I did, but this thread implies otherwise. Please say yes and save me a fee!

This is assuming an HGVC reservation and NOT an RCI reservation, as different timelines apply.

Rescue first, then make reservation. That is the only way to use 2012 points to make a 2013 reservation. You can only make a reservation 9 months out. So at this point you will NOT even be able to make a 2013 reservation.

By end of 2012 you will only be able to book for the first 9 months of 2013 during club season.

This is assuming you are NOT booking your home week, as you would have to book the exact same size and season as you own.

Thanks Sandy!

OK, thats what I thought. I do have to pay the rescue fee, and of course, in 2013, I lost the home week for my 2012 points, and must use club.

Not exactly happy about it, but at least I can interpret the rules.
