I was just looking on the RCI Points website and saw two 2 bedroom trades available at Sheraton Vistana Resort Orlando for next July for 64,000 and 67,000 points respectively.

I own at Sheraton Vistana Fountains and receive 59,600 points per year. Why do three different 2 bedrooms at the same resort offer different amounts of points? Does this reflect differences between the different Vistana sections? I can't see the sections mentioned for these trades on the RCI Points website.

Fountains was just refurbished. Does the number of points associated with a resort go up if the resort is refurbished? Or does it stay the same forever regardless of whether or not the resort improves? You would think it should go up. Vistana charged unitholders $1200 each last year for refurbishment. I've heard the refurbished units are quite nice.

Every section is different and there are differences even within the sections. I can't recall the terminology for the two float schemes in the Fountains, but the weeks that float the more desirable weeks get the amount you mention. The lesser desirable float period would get less, because it's an average of all the points values of the weeks your unit floats.

Fixed weeks get the actual value of that week.

I also hope they'll raise the points value once the refurbishment is done, but they are actually pretty comparable to similar resorts week per week. It's the float that gets you.

Floating weeks

My Fountains week does float (deeded week 25), but in the prime week 5-35, 40-47, and 50-52 periods, so it should be OK in that regard, shouldn't it?

I just called RCI and the Points representative told me that refurbishments will definitely increase the unit's point value, so I hope to see a point value increase in the near future. Next step, I guess, would be to call the HOA to ask what the point increase might be (or just wait and see).
