I have one wk (81,000 staroptions) at Sheraton Vistana (yearly maint ~$1000). I want to get up to 160,000 to 200,000 staroptions/year. We like to visit Westin, St. Regis or Vistana 2BR condos or better all over the world.

I have current offer from SVN to upgrade to 162,000 staroptions and bonus of 100,000 staroptions (one-time) for $25,000+ one-time and additional $1,200 yearly maintenance fee. Reading TUG, I feel that this deal is no good.

Is there another way to get up to 160,000 to 200,000 staroptions (usable across SVN)?
Thanks in advance for your help.

When you said St. Regis, I take it to mean hotel and not timeshare, since St. Regis is a hotel brand and not a timeshare. I also think you meant 100K Starpoints (hotel points). Regardless, $25K is a lot of money and can buy you many nice hotel stays. You can buy SVV (Key West and Bella phase) resale if you want more Staroptions. Staroptions are used for timeshare stays.

You cannot reserve the St. Regis with StarOptions - StarOptions can only be used for Vistana timeshares. The St. Regis is a hotel.

StarOptions = Vistana Timeshare points
StarPoints = Starwood Hotel Points

Important point - you don't get StarPoints when you buy a timeshare on the resale market - you only get StarOPTIONS.

Paying $25,000 to the developer to get StarPoints for hotel stays is a bad deal!

Crunch the numbers: $25,000 upfront + maintenance fees of $1,200 per year will buy a LOT of hotel stays - no need to buy a timeshare for that.

If you don't want to stay at timeshares, I would not buy any more timeshares.
