I was wondering about the status of the Sheraton Desert Oasis because I was thinking of a purchase of a platinum lockout. Can you upgrade to Staroptions with a Desert Oasis, or is this just going to work as a trader for me?

It is a 'voluntary resort' so this will just be an II trader  - fees are fairly reasonable for a lock-off at just about $800....a tad lower then SBP

Thanks, Pat, so no chance of upgrade to Staroptions. That's what I wanted to know. :) Love the idea of a lockout.

The SBP I bought-- turned out to be just what I thought I was buying, which is not a lockout. I don't know why they have it listed as side A and B on my Interval account, nor do I know why the gal asked if I wanted to deposit the entire thing. It's not in a unit number that is a lockout-type number. I just learned that difference recently, too.

After all these years, I am still learning. 27 years of owning timeshare, and I am still clueless.

I wonder how many more years it will take to know everything about timeshare? I don't think I will ever reach the end of that long learning curve.

While technically sold out, units do sometimes become available (foreclosures, etc.) I'm not sure if you are looking to potentially acquire another unit, or to upgrade your 2BR to a 2BR Lockout. If you are looking for another unit, and you buy from the developer, you could then "retro" your existing 2BR and then you'd have annual StarOptions for both. Otherwise, if the the difference between the developer price on a new unit and the orginal developer price on the unit you bought resale is greater than $10,000, you can "upgrade" by trading your existing unit up to the new unit getting credit for the original developer price toward the new unit. You need to find a good SVO salesperson who will look out for you if a unit becomes available.

Another option is to buy a Kierlands unit resale - this is a mandatory resort so the StarOptions transfer with resale.

Hope this helps!
