I feel sorry for all of those people who own Plantation phase (most of ours are Plantation phase) because the weeks for summer, weeks 22-34, at least, have been gone for months, especially the regular 2 bedrooms. There are a few small 1 bedrooms available to grab up, but that's about it.

So you pay your fees when due, which is about now, and then go to book your week, and you cannot book anything at all for summer. It's bad. And if someone cancels, the week goes into limbo for a while, in case someone wants to rent it directly from Starwood. So you are pretty much SOL fpr summer as a weeks owner, 9-43 and 47, 2 bedroom unit.

I booked all of mine way ahead, and I paid fees like two days ahead of each week I booked.

Isn't it as easy as just paying your fees early and booking SBP summer 12 months in advance like normal?

That's what I did, of course, I know the ropes, but I talked to a Starwood Customer Service agent today who has had a lot of unhappy people calling because they cannot get summer.

Before we could check availability online for regular weeks, you could still get July 4th in January. I know because I used to do it. I even posted on TUG once that 4th of July weeks were still available.

4th of July 2016 weeks were gone one week after they were bookable.

Why wait so long to book?
I have booked rooms in July for a June reservation without paying next years MF.

Yeah, a season that covers week 9-43 is going to be problematic for summer bookings. Thankfully, they corrected that mistake in the Palmetto phase.

What was the eventual outcome last year when they told you that there were no units available for your deeded week more than 12 months out? I never saw the followup with a resolution.

There was no follow-up because I just booked another week in the season. Their contention was that I wanted to book a Fri or Sat, but they said I owned Sunday only and not Fri-Sat. Don't even ask me why that would be. Apparently they have some information on their end that doesn't show on my deed.

I have lots of complaints with Starwood and the way they communicate, believe me. I added names to a few confirmations for next year, and I used the form online to do it. I did this on Saturday. One of them still had our name with the guest's also on it. So someone put that in wrong, and when the guest called to confirm, they were told we were still on the reservation with them???? This was this morning.

I didn't wait a long time to book mine, but many owners were used to booking their summer weeks in January and are now out of luck. I have owned SBP 9-43 and 47 for a long time, and it used to be easy to get any date you wanted in January, and even February. It's the new online reservation system causing the issues because you don't have to call anymore. That's my opinion only, though.

If you are not a part of SVN, they make you pre-pay your MF's before you can book a week at SBP. For SVN owners and owners at other Starwood resorts you only have to prepay if you want to deposit in II.

Did you receive a new confirmation in your guest's name? Right now, it is taking more than 48 hours to get a new confirmation, so it may not have been changed to the guest yet.

I used to own SBP 9-43 + 47 and never had trouble booking a summer week. One can reserved the underlying deeded week 24 months in advance, so if your week is deeded to a favorable week, it should still not be a problem.

The rule at SBP used to be that you had to pay MF's before depositing a week, not before reserving a week (my week was resale and therefore not part of SVN). Is Starwood/Vistana trying to get owners to pay MF's two years in advance to reserve deeded summer weeks?

Another reason I am happy to no longer be an owner there.

Everywhere else you only have to prepay to deposit. For the last 3 years, if you are not part of SVN and you want to reserve your SBP (plantation or palmetto), you have to pre-pay your maintenance fees be it 2 years prior for the underlying week or 12 months or less for anything in your season. If you haven't paid the estimated MF's you will not be able to make a reservation.

The confirmation came to me with his name on it, forwarded it to the guy, he called to confirm (don't know why he felt the need), and the front desk at the resort said his name was secondary to mine. Didn't show that way on the confirmation or anywhere on my end.

When I called and talked to Starwood Owner Services, the woman said someone keyed it in wrong.

I see - sounds like another call center error.

But I don't know why you are surprised that he called - isn't that just a smart consumer practice?

You would think, but rickandcindy23 was trying to book their deeded week 26 more than 12 months out (they have several) and was told there were no more available to book. This was after Starwood had dumped a whole bunch of prime summer weeks in to RCI well ahead of the 12 month mark.

He had the confirmation in his name, so I thought he would be good with it; however, since it required a three-way call with Starwood Owner Services, the actual resort and me just to fix it, I guess it's good he called. :p Now I am wondering about the others I have added in recent days.

And then you have to convince the newest Starwood reps that you can indeed book your deeded week 24 months in advance. They are mostly oblivious. I am always educating them, and they are always so surprised.
