Sheer laziness = the best steak I ever cooked!

Still recovering mentally from the tornado and didn't do a whole lot yesterday (piled a few sticks from the yard debris, threw in a load of laundry, watched Law and Order most of the day). Dinner time rolled around and my DS was wanting to eat (darn those kids!). I took out a frozen steak from the freezer figuring it would probably be best to cook up since we had been without power for nearly 3 days. In my fit of laziness, I put the frozen hunk of meat on a cookie sheet, sprinkled some seasoning on it...which barely stuck since it was frozen...haha...and tossed it in the oven at 350 degrees, set to convection bake. When I started to smell it I took it out....20 minutes later? 30 minutest later? I have no idea, and let it rest for 5 minutes before checking it.

OMG, best steak ever! It was a perfect medium rare inside with a slightly crisped finish on the outside and incredibly tender. Seriously the best steak I've ever cooked and so easy. Go figure.

Once owned these: FirstFairway@Walden X 2; Lawai Beach; ManhattanClub; PuebloBonitoRose; 4 South Africa--now timeshare-free
We just got a new oven and it has a convection feature that I don't really know anything about. This might be something we should try.

Sometimes the best recipes happen by mistakes. Wow after 3 days with no electricity the steak was still frozen, great freezer.

I found out from another tugger about a 1/2 hour from me a tornado touched down, a place they normally don’t happen. I know when we get a watch I take them seriously but I know so many that say it never happens here. I am sorry you had to go through this. What region are you in? Ours was in southern Charlotte.

Similar to a reverse sear that I have followed recently. Also proclaimed the best steak ever in our house!!

Ha! That sounds like a wonderfully lazy dinner. I love steak, so any way it's cooked is always good.

My favorite steak when the kids were little was round steak trimmed and fried "steak diane" with butter and onions in a frying pan. It was amazingly delicious. That was when round steak was so cheap that it was a great dinner with very little cost. A few fried potatoes and vegetable, and voila! easy dinner. It was in my old cookbook. I never get that cookbook out anymore. But anything fried in butter is delish.

'Happy cooking accidents' are great. Sometimes they result in getting late reservations at a nearby eatery!

This example was probably courtesy of the frozen steak to assure the pink center, and the convection heat to sear and seal the juices inside it.

Note taken!
