I'm not sure why they completely reconfigured the kitchen like that to put all the counter space along the wall. Kind of looks like Fairway Villas in the kitchen now. It does open it up but it takes away a lot of available counter space. They could have replaced some of it with a small dry island.

I think the counter space is fairly equal (though I did not measure.) I am certain they were addressing the difficulty of getting through when dishwasher/fridge/oven doors were open. You really couldn't have more than 1 person in kitchen comfortably.

The linear design does feel odd at first, but the openness of the whole area is very welcome.

Are the bathroom pics from the master or hall bath? Can’t say I’m a fan.

While it did need a remodel, I think it looks cheap. Glad I’m in process of selling my week.

Did they continue to remodel additional building? Or have they paused this rehab? I believe these three buildings have been finished for some time?

The master bath is the hall bath if that is what you mean. The toilet used to be right next to the small shower, but the shower is now where the bathtub was.

Looked like 1400 was done. They were actively working on 1500. Here is the "general" schedule.

Stayed in a remodeled unit in March. We really liked it. Kitchen worked better with two couples. Great new shower. Guest room much nicer, kitchen area GR improvement. Would be disappointed if I the remodeled unit was not available.

We are in a remodeled unit now. I have a few things we like and don't like. There are far more things we don't like.

  • I really don't mind the more open floor plan in the kitchen and dining room area.
  • I like the open storage shelf in the kitchen. It helps get everything off the counter as the counter is often where we have to put the groceries we bought as many units don't have a lot of cabinet space where stuff hasn't been strategically spread out to fill.
  • I don't like the kitchen table with the stool type setup. This isn't conducive to working at for long periods of time. It also doesn't seem all that accessible. Not everyone who has mobility issues needs an ADA unit. They should have gone with a standard height dining room table.
  • The mattresses are quite hard. I suspect this is because they are fairly new and our room actually still had a pretty new unit smell to it.
  • The bathrooms have motion activated switches. This turns on floor level lighting in the bottom of the vanity as well as the main lights in the bathrooms. Some people may not like this when having to get up in the middle of the night. It may disturb sleeping partners.
  • While the master bath shower is large and nice, there is no shower bench or even grab bars. I get we don't have or want an ADA unit, but a shower bench is always ideal and a grab bar should really be considered for any new shower build out.

We are also in an end unit which I think makes for a different configuration. It is a super long walk from the master bedroom or living room area into the studio side of the unit. This likely wouldn't be an issue for other non end units.

I believe it was at Barony Beach (I think) where they had the motion activated lights under the master bath vanity. My husband was able to disconnect them while we were there. Re-connected before we left. A lot of the Princess cruise ships have these also. We always cover with a piece of blue painters tape we bring.

I think they may also be behind schedule for renovation. According to the HUB, the following buildings were going to be renovated during these timeframes.

Building 2600 - Aug.22, 2024, through Sept.23, 2024
Building 3000 - Sept. 23, 2024, through Oct. 25, 2024
Building 2900 - Oct. 26, 2024 through Nov. 27 2024

I texted them to ask which buildings have had renovations completed and they said only 1000-1500 along with 2400 and 2500. I don't see anything happening with building 3000 right now and 2600 hasn't been completed. We wanted a renovated unit and also to be near the Roadrunner Pool. I think that is what it is called. I can't find the map and the online map still calls it the Serenity Pool. So that shut us out of anything from 2600 through 3000. Right now we have a bit of a hike to that pool from our building.

I actually prefer the counter height table. I stand a lot when I’m on the laptop.

The motion activated lights are terrible so as a message to all, bring or buy some painters tape.

We will be there next week with friends. I requested a pair of upper floor units in 1300.

The pics look great - I am a fan!

I also asked them about the status of The Grill. They said it will not be reopening but they expect another vendor to be taking over the space and opening up sometime early next year.

I was also unaware that you can charge things to your villa at Shadow Ridge if you go to the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa. They were making an update to the systems yesterday and sent out a text indicating that room charge would be temporarily unavailable and they mentioned the ability to charge to your villa from the JW Marriott. Has anyone ever done that?

We just returned last week and enjoyed the unit. We were in building 1100, top floor. I had to get used to the kitchen, which reminded me of a galley. I didn't care for the dining table. We are seniors and never used the table with those high chairs. My problem was with the parking. How do you only have one handicap parking space per building??? We were so thankful that the evening before we left, that parking space was available, which hadn't been the entire week. Plus, the cars must park so close together with those concrete post between the cars. My sister enjoyed the studio unit. The fridge in her unit was better and newer than mine. I didn't mind the motion lights in the master bathroom since I do get up during the night. The toilet room was great being separate form the rest of the bathroom. And yes, the shower needed to have some type of security bar to hold on to and a place to put the towels. This was our first time at this resort, and my second visit to the area since 2017. We were so saddened that the Ariel Tram was closed during our stay. That was one of the main reasons why I booked this resort.

I am actually liking the automatic lighting in the bathrooms. I don't need to touch a switch. The lights, even overhead) come on automaricallly and then turn off after a couple minutes. I don't get up in the night very often. I can see this being an issue for others though. Especially since it is the entire bathroom light that comes on and not just the ones in the lower cabinets.

As for the shower, it is annoying. The one we have doesn't have any place inside the shower to sit anything. So if you bring your own shampoo or soap, there is no small shelf to put it on. It needs a bar and a shower seat too.

We drove the Palms to Pines Biway for the first time in our four years coming here and really enjoyed it.

I think the overhead only comes on if they are switched on. In our unit only the under cabinet lights came on by motion, which is far less disturbing than the main lights coming on.

I couldn’t figure that out or at least they seemed to reset. Blue painters tape did the job.

I am not sure about that. The motion sense overhead light has a button for on and off. I've pushed it off and the lights still came on the next time through the bathroom. I may check it to see if there is another way to turn that function off.

Motion sensor light switches in bathrooms are now required by the electrical code, so you will see them more and more. I think when they renovate they probably have to put them in. The reason they are in the code is to save energy by preventing people from leaving the bathroom light on after they are finished using the bathroom.

There are multiple ways these switches can be set. They can be set so that they always turn on when they detect motion, and turn off after a certain period of time with no motion.

They can also be set so that you have to turn them on manually, but they will automatically turn off after a certain amount of time with no motion.

Finally, the length of time they stay on after motion ceases is also usually selectable.

In a hotel setting, I'm thinking they SHOULD never be set to come on automatically, as that could be undesired behavior. If I get up in the night to use the toilet, the last thing I want is the lights in the main bathroom popping on by themselves and waking everyone up. But I imagine that sometimes they do end up being set this way.

If you have a small screwdriver, you can probably remove the faceplate of the outlet and look up the instructions for the model of switch which is installed, then change its programing (usually there are small DIP switches) so that it does not turn on the light by itself.
