this is my first post ever, I'm nervous. I have two timeshares, two different vacation clubs. I'm getting smart now and I'm going to sell one and pile up points on the other, but which do I sell? Fiestamericana/ HGVC or Wyndham. They both are great.

Did you buy them resale or developer?
If you bought them developer, you're going to take a huge hit. I don't know much about Wyndham, but Hilton is awesome - easy to use - but not a lot of locations. That said, people here on this board get great trades. I've used only Hilton - not RCI - so far.

If you sell Wyndham, you will get more hit than HGVC. Hilton resale price is not as bad as Wyndham resale (in seller's points of view).
When I compared MF increases for 2009, HGVC has the most reasonable increase among my 5 TS. I don't know how much Wyndham increased MF for 2009 though.

Why not keep both, I do.

I own both as well and each has their pluses and minuses.

I think that you would get more resale for your HGVC. They have maintained better resale pricing. Wyndham resale pricing in rock bottom and falling. However I love Wyndham for the flexibility and for the VIP perks I get. I really can make Wyndham work for me. HGVC I love but it is a premium product but at a premium price for MFs etc.

Can you not own both?

WYNDHAM Pros
Lots and Lots of resort options.
Some Great, some nice, some average to poor resorts.
Still expanding and adding resort at a quick enough pace
Discounts on points at 60 day mark.
Deposits into RCI and get bigger units (deposit studio get 2 BR)
Free Upgrades if available 60 day Mark, but only because I have VIP status
MF are generally lower than HGVC

WYNDHAM Cons
Average Trader in RCI
Rule changes annually with little communication
Finance are horrible to get things straighten out if issues
Big increase in Guest Fees and Reservations (once your allotment is used up)

HGVC Pros
Great Resorts, Good Availability
Great Hotel affiliate and HHonors Program
Tiger Trader in RCI, if it is available in RCI you can get it
Is still retaining it resale values
Well Maintained Resorts
Good Management Reputation
No Guest Confirmation Fees
Open season

HGVC Cons
Orlando, Vegas and Hawaii ( and little else)
You get what you pay for in RCI, no free upgrades
MFs are generally Higher than Wyndham
Not much else that I can think of

I work both for what their strengths are. I use Wyndham for easy to obtain direct exchanges within 60 day mark at 50% off the points and try to get my free size unit upgrade whenever possible. I use Wyndham at the 10 month mark for Holiday and school break weeks that are harder to obtain. I use Wyndham for my RCI deposits where there is lots of availability, a small blue studio deposit will easily get more shoulder season (Red time but not really bright red) season in Texas or Orlando. So I get a 2 BR units for about $100 in MFs, plus an RCI exchange fee. Same week in HGVC would be about 4,800 to 3,400 HGVC points so $750 to $550 in MF cost for the same week. Big difference.

However if I want that Manhattan Club Studio week in the summer I can get it no problem in HGVC and I pay the studio price. I would likely not obtain that week using any Wyndham deposit in RCI. I generally use HGVC for Hawaii or Vegas in direct HGVC bookings. I rarely use it for Orlando even though I own in Orlando. If needed, it is my premium deposit into RCI for hard to get exchanges.

Play off the strength of each and give yourself better options.

You all have very valid points. Thanks. We have owned both now for 4-5 years and do use them in various ways ( trading points for air miles, ect ), I'm trying to get those VIP perks at Wyndahm, I need a few more points there. Just feel like I don't get enough and I feel like I'm waisting money, but as you all have pointed out, I guess I'm not. I haven't tryed to Rent either out yet. Maybe I will give that a try. Thanks

Wyndham resale prices are in free fall. last year, you could count on getting $10/1000 Wyndham points ( so you could sell your TS worth 154K pts for at least $1500 - $3000) this year the price is 1/3 that if your lucky and some people are finding that they can get only $1/1000 points (so now you can sell your TS worth 154K pts for maybe $200 - $600).

Why take that kind of loss?? Keep them both.

PS there is nothing ( VIP, Gold VIP, Platinum VIP) Wyndham could do or give me to ever consider buying direct from them. Paying $15,000 for something I could buy resale for no more than $500 doesn't may sense under any condition!!

Hilton also has an arrangement with Grand Mayan and Club Intrawest. This has greatly expanded our ability to travel. A two bedroom unit 1 week goes for 4800 HGVC points. We have been to The Grand Mayan Riviera Maya and Club Intrawest Whistler this year. We are taking a Spain Canary Island Cruise in February-March 2009 and will be in Lake Tahoe for my wife's birthday in October 2009.

Trading into a Wyndham facility is fairly easy with HGVC. We have stayed at the Worldmark Steamboat Springs and Fairfield LongWarf Resort RI.
