I honestly believe them because you can't pay me to go to florida in July for $1200 a week. I can barely stand the humidity in March October and January which are the months I have been. Cant imagine July with possible hurricanes.
We were there July 4th week 2024 (with kids), just as we were the previous 4 years, then we were there again last year for my wife's birthday with some friends (no kids) in October the day after a hurricane had everything shut down. The airport and Disney had just opened up the day we were flying in for the EPCOT Food & Wine fest. Temps were, ironically, about equal to October, maybe ever so slightly cooler. I don't discount that it is hot in the summer usually, but seemed equally as hot in October last year (and that's coming from someone from NOLA, lol), but the crowds are thick regardless (whether going for Mardi Gras, Summer, or October -- have never been for Thanksgiving or Christmas).
I suppose we have lucked out that the last several years we were able to get some decent deals. Yes, two of them (that I know of) were through RCI, since I received the guest certificate via email (had an extra $190 fee on WDW hotel bill at checkout) and I had to phone to get the confirmation # for the My Disney Experience App linking, but other times were just direct email messages from DVC owners on RedWeek that I had reached out to who were not originally interested in tweaking/moving dates from their original listings, but later followed up with me one or more times and we worked out agreeable pricing. Two summers ago was one they had originally asked $3,000 and I was not in a position to pay that for a 1BR for dates that didn't originally work for us, but they followed up twice to first offer a discounted rate on the original dates, which weren't possible for us, then again a week later with the dates we needed, but also at a discounted rate of $1,200, which was a Savanna view at AKL, so we accepted. They said, essentially, they were just looking to make enough to cover their maintenance fees. Another time was a 1BR at SS for 7 nights for $1,000 July 2022 on eBay (mustn't have been RCI since no fee on the room bill). Other times we did a studio, but still for slightly less. Knock on wood, we've never had an issue with any of these reservations, either with linking or check-in.
This is the first trip we are in need of a 2BR, and I'm certainly expecting it to be a little higher than what we've paid in prior years for the same time of year, but I know what we've been able to find for several years now and just can't justify a $5k-$7k price tag for hotel only, no parks, dining plan, etc.
