Back in July of 2014, I made an incredible exchange for August 2015 into Samoset Resort in ME. We were so excited, did lots of research, and made lots of plans. On August 8, 2015 all our hopes and plans were dashed when I broke my leg just 3 weeks before check in. Trying to salvage something, when I got home from the hospital, I called the resort, explained the situation, and asked if maybe we could be assigned a unit on the second floor if possible, (where you enter - to avoid stairs). Instead of a sympathetic, "I'm not sure what we can do", "or let us check, we'll call you back...", all I got was an emphatic, (almost to the point of rude), NO!! Our dreams of a vacation last year were dashed for a second time.

Fast forward now to January 8 of this year, I managed to score another unit at Samoset for September 8, 2017!!! At least now we'll get to do some of the things we had planned ~ we were really looking forward so much to this trip. I know what a hard resort this is to get into during the summer, and I'd been checking everyday, (sometimes twice a day), and I guess I just hit it right! Persistence pays..........:whoopie:

Congrats!

Congratulations! The weather should still be nice, and the bulk of the crowds will be thinned out. Will be a grand time of year to come visit our fair state of Maine! We dearly love Samoset. I've only stayed there once...in the very off-season month of April...but my kids have been clamoring to go back ever since. I hope that you'll have a lovely time. Enjoy the planning stage...it's one of the best things about booking early!

One recommendation for Samoset. Walk out to the lighthouse the first day, before you have a chance to see it from the side and how far it is!

We discussed previously that Samoset personnel had no option, latitude or authority to alter your (or any) assigned exchange unit during a peak occupancy August week when all 72 units (24 per building) were already accounted for, most occupied then by owners or their family members (or tenants, in some instances).
Nonetheless, hotel desk personnel should certainly have been much more polite, explanatory and considerate, explaining to you exactly why a unit change in a peak demand August week was simply not a possibility. You may very well have even been the only "exchanger" coming into Samoset for that prime August week.

Anyway, you've certainly earned obtaining a new "trade" (via OGS I presume, but that's none of my business). I sincerely hope you'll have a great week.
The outdoor zero entry pool beside the Hotel might still even be open then too --- it generally closes up for the season sometime around Labor Day.
The overall weather in mid-coast Maine can be spectacular in September, often into early October. Implement those previous plans and enjoy!

Calvin Coolidge (Vermont Yankee & U.S. President) observed that "persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." Your Samoset saga is admirable proof!
