Sea Gardens, they gave away my room

Arrived at Sea Gardens yesterday. Had a reservation for a one bed deluxe Ocean Palms. Had to wait until about five to get my room. They gave us a one bedroom A unit in the waterfalls. When arriving at the room I said NO WAY! There was nothing Deluxe about this room.

We went down to complain and were told their system does not say Ocean Palms and that was the room we were assigned. When I made the reservation it said Ocean Palms and the points usage was more for it. They did happen to "find" a two bedroom deluxe in Ocean Palms but we had to pay $100 bucks for the upgrade which we willingly did.

Then She said something about fixed week owners there and how those unit usages aren't downloaded until late.....I'm kinda waiting for someone to knock at my door asking me to move because they rented me someone else's unit.

We like the resort and the unit we ended up with is beautiful. Hope we get to stay! :)

Can't you print your reservation confirmation? Wouldn't that show the points and unit type on it? Ours for the end of the month show points used and unit type along with housekeeping credits. It would be interesting to see what they would say if you showed them that!

And guess who is at Santa Barbara NOW. Author of cookiejar thread in the Wyndham section.

Talked to Wyndham. All units are in the points system, fixed week system, or handled by Extra Holidays. I am not sure this adds anything to the thread, however, I thought it was interesting. Does Extra Holidays have priority over fixed weeks and Wyndham Vacation Resorts points bookings at this resort were they have double booked a room? Wyndham said that Extra Holidays was the rental agent for the Resort. For what it is worth, one or two other resorts have indicated to me that Extra Holidays is also their resorts Rental Agent.

This is the first I have heard of the pay extra for a more appropriate room where one had been "paid for". I would contact the Wyndham Esclation department and ask for a refund for the $100 fee. I see no such authorization for this fee in the members directory.

The fact they had a specific fee to be charged suggests this is not an isolated occurance. My guess is your fee went to Extra Holidays.

Thanks to TUG friends, this has been resolved. The manager left a message at our unit and when my husband went down he was told the $100 would not be charged to our card. The manager agreed we should have been in Ocean Palms but there was no unit available. My guess is the inbound that got the waterfalls unit checked in and raised such a stink they got the Ocean Palms unit. We tried to check in at 2 but "our room" wasn't available until almost 5. LOTS of people checked in during that time.

We love the 2 bedroom unit we are in and would have been just as happy in the 1 bedroom.

I do want to say that the parking pass people have done a very good job of respecting my privacy and I really appreciate that. After being stalked and harassed last Spring in San Antonio, I asked that they do not call, knock or send notes and they have not. Wish all the Wyndham Sales people behaved like this.

The icing on the cake was we got to meet Linda from TUG and spend some time chatting and having a drink at the tiki bar. It's so nice to meet someone from the TUG family.

Similar happened recently at Bluebeards Beach Club was reported on Trip Advisor. A renter/exchanger was in a fixed week owners unit. Wyndham seems to be trying to use units they have no business using.

Joan and her DH were delightful and wonderful hosts:hi: . It was rainy and the Tiki bar had just enough roof to keep us dry. Did you enjoy the dinner cruise?

Of course, Santa Barbara had NO WATER for 5.5 hours (10AM til 3:30PM), went to Royal Vista for their BBQ lunch but the Fire Alarm system was trigger (total evacuation and fire truck & firemen search) at 12:15PM, took the jitty bus to Sea Gardens (as SG still was operational despite by dark cloud over my head) and got lunch, finally.

And a lovely review that was ;) . Image that the TS fixed week owner called the police and was rude to the renters?

Oh well, calling the police would be understandable, argruably, it would be illegal treaspass in most localities. It appears a trend may be develping. The fixed week concept may be in the beginning stages of going away. Fixed week owners may now be headed to a future of getting their week, only if it is not otherwise used by Wyndham.

Deeded ownership is a little hard to kill off. I suspect Wyndham will have their Professional Liability Insurance policy getting hit with claims -- and then, a nice little old lawsuit in federal court.

It is like the old tale of homework - "the dog ate it". Teachers, parents, and classmates never believed that. A major corporation today saying, "its a computer glich" gets the same look from everyone as "the dog ate it" excuse.

I agree and believe it's an excuse that is really being done on purpose, because they get away with it so repeat it. Once in a while they get caught like has been reported.

There is probably a significant percentage of fixed week owners who never show up. Wyndham is just counting on that. Flights and hotels get overbooked be cause of the same thing. It just sucks when it happens to you. My advice call the resort and/or check in early. Do anything you can to make sure they know you are coming.

Although I agree with this advice, I would just point out that the fixed week owners clearly have a deeded and legal right to their specific week in their unit. I haven't read a fixed week contract, but I doubt they are as vague as the airlines' language. I suspect they specifically articulate the rights of the owner to occupy their unit. (They were written before Wyndham took over, after all). Even so, when airlines overbook a flight, if everyone shows up they are required to offer denied boarding compensation, and Wyndham has failed to do even that to any meaningful extent.

While they may be counting on fixed week owners not showing up, it doesn't give them the right to give the deeded occupancy unit to someone else. They *could* decide on the basis of our reservations that we will not be occupying our house during a certain period, but that does not give them the right to give someone the key to our house and let them stay there.

Staying in a 2-bedroom at the Ocean Palms in May. Lately, the Sea Garden is getting hammered on tripadvisor and other sites. The complaints are about the quality of some of the rooms and the quality of the staff. It could be just a coincidence, but its certainly not great press for this Wyndham resort. Makes me wonder about spending a fortune on airline tickets/car etc. to visit such a possible iffy spot.
