We are thinking of booking our Grand Mayan into the Sea Garden this Feb.
has anyone stayed there recently and what do you think about it? We have been going to the Grand Mayan for the past10 years or so and are not pleased with what they have done to it. It is a beautiful resort, but we are in our 80's and find it too hard to get around even with all the shuttles, there is lots of walking! We are familiar with Sea Garden but have never actually stayed there. I think it would be better for us this year because, 1. it's right near the bus, 2. OXOX across the street, cheaper and better stocked with normal things than the one at Grand. 3. many restaurants close by on the Marina 4. there is a little shuttle ferry from the Marina close by to Paradise Village Mall It seems to me that it would be much easier to get around BUT will we LIKE the resort? We do spend a lot of time in our room and around the pool and the resort. Do the rooms have balconies? I love to read on the balcony. I think we'll like it. Hope so. Any comments?

In addition to all you mentioned there is a free tourist bus that runs to and from Paradise Village.
There is no balcony, but the suites are fine. They are not as plush as the GM, but they are comfortable.
You are not trapped at the SG as you are at the GM, etc., especially if you are not hardy walkers.

Thanks Ron for your reply. I thought they probably didn't have balconies. I didn't know about the tourist bus. That's great! I'm sure we'll use it. We usually stay at Mayan Marina for a week, too, and have found that the check-in building has small balconies so we always ask for that building now. I didn't expect the "plush" of the Grand Mayan. While it's nice, we don't need that and do need it to be a little more convenient for us, so I'm excited about Sea Gardens next Feb.

I also think it is an excellent choice; while I have not stayed there, we have visited and eaten there. I really like the openness of the lobby and the beach is just right in front of you as is the pool. They also have nice reasonable special buffet nights.

For the future, you might also consider the GM in Cabo: small resort with everything contained; all rooms have ocean view; easy to get to know people. Very short (and cheap) taxi rides from lobby to grocery and to the excellent restaurants in San Jose.

We also enjoyed the buffets at the Sea Garden. Unfortunately, last time we stayed at the GM in NV, Jan 2014, that restaurant was closed. Hopefully it is open again. On the other hand, a new restaurant opened next to the OXXO.

I have also found that the MP in the PV reception building has the largest balconies of any MP. We go to ACA next January, and I am curious to see what the new tower for MP/GM looks like. I booked the GM through RCI for two weeks, but will definitely check out the new tower and the MP complex across the highway. Not planning on venturing into the city of Acapulco on this trip.

I think you will really enjoy staying at the Sea Garden! As a Mayan owner you should be able to get an ocean view and believe me it is beautiful. Many people put out one of the small chairs on the balcony and you can watch the activities while drinking your morning coffee. It is so convenient as others have mentioned. The new restaurant next to the OXOX is really good and there is a weekly market set up near the gazebo where you can pick up fresh fruits and vegetables while shopping for gifts or watching the dancers and entertainers. It feels so "free" over there without the hassle of taking shuttles everywhere and walking large distances to the beach. Also, the pool at the Sea Garden is heated and the bartenders at the swim up bar are fun and entertaining. Hope you have a great time. Keep it simple for a more relaxing and easy vacation. Enjoy!:cheer:

good feedback re SG NV from a MP owner in 2013

In spring 2013 we spoke to another couple during our stay at MP PV Marina .
They were longtime MP owners ( upgraded to Bliss ) and had gone on the NV owners update tour because no Bliss locations were yet then opened .
They said they asked to go look at the NV Sea Garden for the reasons you listed since he was approx age 75 - and the sales staff accommodated .The couple felt it would be a good option for a Nuevo stay .
We did stay at the Mazatlan Sea Garden in Feb 2010 because PV Marina was booked and it was fine .
P.S. - I just filled out the MP email survey - and made sure to note that our
personal preference is the smaller Vidanta resorts . I know Cirque etc is where the growth $ hype is - but I want to remind the part of their management that is focusing on keeping the Grupo Vidanta resort well filled with existing owners that not every owner wants bigger and bigger - particularly as we age.
Mike ( Mikenk) - thanks for mentioning the size of GM Cabo - We have not stayed there but perhaps should sometime now that it is opened again .

We just returned from area; while there, I went by Sea Garden just to remember what it was like as we have never stayed there. Following are notes I took comments:
- Resort is largely open air lobby and access to rooms; lobby was comfortable even in middle of summer day.
- There are one bedroom suites and 1 bedroom "hotel" rooms. They do not connect except through outside. The MF prices are $540 / $745 and $920 for both together.
- Rooms have no balconies but sliding doors that open out - like MP; nothing luxury - just basic but well maintained amenities.
- Pool and beach right there as is access to Taxis / Nuevo restaurants. Taxi fee 35pesos to main resort.
- They have buffet breakfast or off menu. Dinner buffet twice a week; otherwise menu always available.
- Staff I talked to were really proud of their little resort compared to big brother next door - a nice attitude.
- Person in reservations said that GL owners with benefits (golf / massages) could use them for a added fee when staying at the SG.

Overall, I really liked the look and feel of the resort.

I did go ahead and book there for Feb. I think we'll like the "smallness" of this resort and the feeling of "freedom"!! I'm excited to go! Since I book it with our Grand Mayan week, I'm hoping I can request and get an ocean view. At least we won't have to look at the GARAGE like we have done for the past 5 years at the Grand Mayan! Thanks all for the info
