SDO EOY Maintenance Fees

Hello,
I have collected a number of SDO timeshares and I use them mostly as a trader with II (and I love them). Well, I decided to sell a number of them as I have too many for our family to use.

My question is when I sell an Every Other Year SDO timeshare, when do the maintainable fees bill for an odd year? The maintenance fees are paid annually. The unit will be available for use in 2027, so I know that the 2027 maintenance fees is paid to cover this unit (for 2027).

My question is do I pay for the other 1/2 of my maintenance fees for 2027. Is it this year (2026) or in 2028?

For Vistana, most often the fees are collect in the year before and year of the use year. So the 2026 and 207 fees apply to the 2027 use year. Ultimately, who pays which years is up for negotiation. It may be a situation where you can't really recoup the 2026 fees in order to find someone willing to take it.

Adding, I know what is being sold here doesn't have StarOptions, but when someone wants to borrow StarOptions for an EOY ownership, they usually have to pay two years of fees to borrow the points in line with what I stated above. I think the same applies to depositing into II. So if you wanted to deposit 2027 week, you would have had to pay 2026 and prepay 2027 but not have to pay 2028.

Vacation Village operates the same way too.

Thank you, that makes sense as you would expect Vistana to want to collect any maintenance fees prior to guests using the week. So, for every other year odd weeks (2027), you would pay 1/2 the MF in 2026 and the other 1/2 of the maintenance fee before you check in (in 2027).

Agreed, everything is 100% negotiable though it is important to know which week might be of more value (even or odd weeks) when you factor in maintenance fees.

Cause the asking price isn’t much for SDO traders.

Is this true? I deposited my Westin kierland odd year 2027 week into II and used for an upcoming exchange (this month), and did not pre pay my 2027 MFs, prior to the exchange. Although I did prepay 2027 MF with credit card prior to 3% fee implementation just this last week.

I thought it was. Perhaps Vistana is going the way of Marriott and not requiring prepayment. They have required prepayment in the past to deposit or borrow StarOptions.
