I received my "ballot" for the SDO board of directors election in October. It looks like the candidates are:

  1. Larry Henke
  2. Dale Putman
  3. Adam Scharmann
  4. Write-in Candidate

And we can vote for only one candidate. Are any of these folks incumbents? How about independent or are they simple Starwood shills? Any advice on who to vote for?

Unfortunately, they won't get a quorum for the election, and the current board members (as advised by Starwood) will select the next board members.

*A few years ago a Tugger ran for the SDO board. TUG members gave him a lot of support and there was a good turn out for the election - but not good enough - they didn't have enough voters for a quorum.

Even though the TUG candidate got the most votes, and there were two positions to fill, the sitting board choose two other candidates to fill the position. Democracy - NOT! ;)

I filled out mine online just now for WKV. I gave general powers to the secretary or whoever on the board is there to represent. I didn't recognize any of the names. Hopefully they all do what is in the best interest of all the owners.

Most of the boards are firmly under Starwood's thumb, and primarily do what Starwood tells them to do…

Starwood keeps it this way by:

1. Filtering applications and only putting those that they approve of, on the ballot.

2. Advising the sitting boards who to choose, when they don't get a quorum - which is almost always.

*A few years ago a Tugger, who was an attorney, wanted to run for the WKORV board. Starwood denied his application. He pointed out to them that they didn't have the legal authority to do that, and any owner in good standing was allowed to run. He was allowed to run, but was treated with suspicion and resentment by the sitting board. And of course, he was not elected - meaning that when they didn't get a quorum, the board did not select him...

So should I NOT vote at all?

There is no harm in it.
