Got it with a useless supplemental cert I had in my II acct.

We were looking for something to do for the week as my kids have 7 days off of school and I have 4 weeks of vacation still to use. We'll probably just do 4 or 5 days but that will be perfect.

Boston is a quick ferry and drive away, I think about 2 hours so that is very cost effective and time manageable.

We've already started reading Tripadvisor and TUG reviews of course but any quick thoughts on things to do or places to eat at close by?

Custom house is essentially at Fanueil Hall and a short walk to the North End (Italian food). Since they burried the expressway, a/k/a The Big Dig, you can now just walk across the street to the Aquarium. If you can ditch the kids one night the Oceanaire restaurant is just up the street and you can have a fab meal. Within walking distance there is stuff to do and a couple T stops are nearby as well. A cool thing to do in town is the Boston Chocolate Tour. A childhood friend of mine runs them and it was... um, a sweet couple of hours! :hysterical:

Nice catch! When we were in Boston a couple of days before a cruise, we did the Old Towne Trolley. It is on and off and at that time we got an extra day with our online ticket purchase.

We got one of those a few years back also on a school holiday (one of the reasons I continue to preach that "having" to own to get these prime times is false). It was a great stay in a great area. Enjoy!

Congrats! When is your spring break? Ours is next week. There was a sighting for next week once. But I don't have Marriott priority.

Because we didn't have any snow days my kids have an extended spring break so they are off from Thursday 4/5 through Sunday 4/15 so their sring break week is 4/9 - 4/13.

Was this a bonus week for depositing something of high demand?

We recently received a summer/Phoenix week deposited in our II account as compensation for troubles at Canyon Villas. I wondered what good it would be since it was such a low demand week. Searching II one night I found a 3 bedroom Leaf Peeping week in Bay Harbor, MI at a beautiful resort.

It pays to keep searching the II inventory.

This cert was actually for a Gift of Time that I rented only to have the renter back out at last minute. I refunded my profit, keeping the amount I paid for the GOT. I deposited the GOT at the very last minute and got this cert. I was hoping to use during my latest Maui trip but wasn't able.

I was focusing on Custom House because its so accessible to us in NY and only saw maybe one along the way. I had settled for looking for anything close by for the dates my kids are out of school but couldn't until this popped up.

Again we won't even take full advantage of the 7 days but even for Friday through Wednesday its great for us. The confirmation cost me $119 so its a really great bargain.

Catch a Red Sox game if they are in town. (That's what I would do! :) )

Two words!!

Mike's Pastry

Mike's Pastry in the north end (walkable from Custom House).

They don't take credit cards... carry cash.

You'll see everybody walking around with the white and blue boxes tried with string.

Skip Duncan Doughnuts near the Custom House and go to Mike's Pastry... stock up and carry back for the next day's breakfast!

Try the Ricotta pie.

:)

The first thing I did after I secured the unit was to look for tickets, but unfortunately the team I love to hate is on the road to start the season.

Great score Joe. Here are some things you might consider.

Take the PJ ferry and drive up to the "T" at Quincy Center or Quincy Adams station. You can park your car in a monitored lot for a few bucks a day. Take the "T" to Downtown Crossing and then switch to the Blue line and get off at State Street. Customs House is right in front of you. Get Charly Cards for all pax, the T is the easiest way to get around Boston.

We visited Harvard and liked it, the JFK Library and liked it but it was a most of the day trip. Take a walking tour from Boston Commons, great fun and an easy walk. Take a "DUCK" tour. I know it's cheesy but it was a hilarious and informative tour.

We bought 3 day Go Boston cards. Mixed feelings about those. We broke even or saved maybe $30 or so but we saw a lot of stuff we might not have bothered with if we didn't get them. Go have a drink in the Oyster House. It's the oldest bar in America. The Constitution was a great tour and while it's a distance is is walkable. On the return you can get a ferry to the Wharf.

They have events in the lounge about twice a week. The one we went to was great They change them around so I don't know what will be there during your visit. Don't miss the tour of Customs House itself. We caught part of it but I'll definitely do the whole tour next time. The restaurants were all good, no real complaints about any of the ones we visited.

If your wife is a clothes shopper try to get a room that doesn't overlook Fanueil Hall. It's a great view but there is also an Orvis store with a great big green sign. Once my bride saw that I knew I was doomed to at least two hours of clothes shopping. There are bars nearby.

The best thing about the place is that it's small and easy to get around and tons of stuff to see and do.

Have a great trip!

This is great info. I'd like to drop the family off with the bags and then park off site. How can we manage that? It was suggested the Conceirge could provide guidance on that, is that true? I see us using the T or walking to get around but would like to park close by in case we need access to something in the car. Is that possible?

We're super pumped about this.

You could drop the family and bags off at the door and then reverse your route and find a T station with parking but I wouldn't do it. There's just no point in having a car in Boston that I can see. Parking is usually upwards of $40 a day. On our next trip up there I was thinking of bringing the scooters and parking them outside the door but we've sort of rejected that because the T is just so darn convenient and well laid out.

The Concierge at Customs House was good but really the only thing I asked of them was directions. I've learned long ago not to take dining recommendations from folks 1/3 my age.

there really isn't any reasonable long term parking. You might be able to drive to Wonderland in Revere, leave the car and take the Blue Line back to Aquarium T stop, which is 1 block from CH.

Trust me, you DON'T want a car in Boston.

Sox may be away but there is always tour of Fenway.
