Saving RCI points for future use

Hi,

Sorry if this a daft question....we bought too many RCI points a few years ago (100,000) and gave back half of them 2 years ago to a reasonable amount for our usage. Thing is, we have been moving points across years to catch up for some time.

I've paid to save 100,000 points into our next use year (2016) from our 2014 points, but we now have our 2015 points (50,000) expiring in May, along with 36,125 points from 2013 that we were resigned to losing. However, we were not expecting to lose 86,125, which we've paid for over the years.

I was wondering if there was any way to save the 2015 50,000 points? One possibility I thought of was to book the cheapest late deal on there (there are some for 3,000 point), so that the remaining points would automatically flow into next year, but didnt want to do that in case there was a limit of 100,000 and my idea would just be wasted money, lol

I know we could just book a big holiday, but with 3 small children, practically no availability in the UK, and not enough money to book flights etc for us all, this isnt really an option! We've been catching up with the points for some time now, lol

I'm hoping someone with detailed rci points knowledge could steer us in the right direction - sorry if this is covered somewhere else, but I havent found anything clear

Thanks :)

We are Platinum in RCI, and Platinum level allows us to save our points for many years with no fees.

There is no number limit on saved points. The number may determine the fee for saving. I don't think platinum gets free saves unless that has changed. Everyone gets free saves as long as you have used some points during the use year. Unlike currently for tpu's there is a finite time to save points. I have a tendency to borrow ahead so not to have to worry. Is it one year beyond the end of the use year or two? If you are using points you need to make sure in general you are using the oldest points.

You probably need to get on the phone and find a good RCI guide who can help you. You need to plot out your use years and start using some points to at least prevent you from having to pay to save.

When do you plan to start using your points 2017? It isn't too soon to start making those bookings now. Depending on your use year you may be able to use your 2014 points to do so or you may have to use the 2015 points depending on when in 2017 you might be using them.

Thanks tschwa2 - we had been planning to do a fortnight in Spain in May 2017, so I plugged in a holiday for then to see how it would allocate the points, and it would have pushed the 2015 points into 2016 for free! (I then cancelled back out before completing of course!)

So we need to decide on our family holiday and book it up in the few weeks...

I'm grateful for the advice :)

Get more time to enjoy your Points! As an RCI Platinum member, you can now extend your unused Points for two use years as compared to a standard member who can extend for only one use year when they pay the same applicable fee. While extended Points expire at the end of a third year for standard RCI members, RCI Platinum members will enjoy a fourth year with no additional fee.

This is a benefit I find helpful. Most of the others, not really.

Another Platinum benefit:

Free Points Transfers

Know an RCI Points® member that could use additional Points? Lucky them! Now RCI Platinum members no longer pay a Points transfer fee, so transfer away!

Did not know about either of these benefits. Like I said I usually borrow ahead since my resort doesn't make me pay and I am down to a single EOY points but it is good to know. I have the odd 5260 points left and thought it might expire now I know it won't.
