Saving Points into Future Use Years, did they screw us over for this year?

I am VIPP and until the change in August, I could deposit my points up to Dec 31st, for my Jan to Dec use year.

I thought I read that this year they were giving us a break and could still deposit any RESALE points into next year, up to the end of the year. But NO I just tried playing with the deposit feature and its says.... Resale points are only eligible in the first 3 months.

So did I remember it wrong or did they just screw over anyone with Resale points remaining?

So now I have 2 dates to remember roll over, the end of the Year for my VIPP points and March 31 for my 1 Resale contract.

I am going to be annoyed if they took away our ability to deposit points when they made this change midyear, and we didn't know how they were going to divide up our points across existing reservations.

They did tell us we could move the resale points through 12/31/2021, but didn’t implement it in the system. You have to call and have them do it manually. They wound up needing to do it the hard way, adjusting my account to take the points out of this year and doing another adjustment to add them to 2023. On the plus side, the rep comped the PFD fee for my inconvenience.

You will need to track the separate deadlines in future years.

grrrrrrrr, I hate calling in, I would much rather do it myself on the computer. Not only is it done right, but it talks way less time to do it online.

Completely agree with that sentiment, but it is what it is.

Could you just put them into RCI? I am going to put a bunch into RCI at the end of the year. Any rules against it?

You could, but I would prefer not to. I have a few HGVC points already in RCI points side, plus I have a bunch (>300) TPUs in my weeks account. I just hate the $249 reservation fee (or whatever it currently is) which to me is way to high. My underlying points cost for an average weeks runs about $450, so it is annoying that the res fee adds more than 50% to that cost base.

The flip side, though, is that the total week only costs you $100/night. That would be fine by me in most cases.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't push them forward. That makes sense too! Just trying to offer another way of looking at RCI.

I am done depositing to RCI. Not only is the exchange fee ridiculous, but last year they did away with the VIP points upgrade, which was the only thing still making it worthwhile for me. I used to be able to make a 35 K deposit to RCI and get it upgraded to 63 K points. They claimed that not enough people were using this. The real problem was that the upgrade was not available through the system (probably because they ultimately wanted to do away with it) and you had to call in to get it done. More than half of the time, it was not done correctly, necessitating another lengthy call to get it fixed.

No limit on how many Wyndham points can be transferred to RCI. You can also transfer a unlimited amount of Wyndham RCI points to another Wyndham RCI points account at no cost. I personally have transferred 5 million at one time in then out.

It might be implemented that way, but the guidelines in the member's directory on page 286 includes the following:

  • When making an External Exchange deposit, you may deposit up to the amount of points owned including Bonus contracts.

There's also an RCI benefit limitation in the new benefit summary page when you're signed on.

I may be crazy, but, I'm hopeful that they bring this benefit back now that they've successfully separated Resale points from being treated as VIP points.

and it is hard to say if last year and perhaps this year they are allowing unlimited (including points that have been moved forward) already or if this has been because of a covid curtesy which won't always be the case. As long as they are allowing it this year, you don't have to worry about it this year but I wouldn't make future plans based on that ability.

This is way too high. The cancellation policy is basically useless. Even if you pay the extra $89, you only get a credit that has to be used in the same year.
Plus, many of the resorts have a resort fee.

I don't think this is still true. I believe now it only restores the full value of the TPU/points you used. I could be wrong about that though.
I am referring to the exchange fee. It is not refunded, it is a credit. Yes, the points are returned.
I only have the "free" RCI weeks account, so it maybe different for a points account. But Wyndham points can only be deposited into the RCI weeks account, correct?

You get your points back but they still retain their original expiration date. So no credit toward the fee and if the points are close to expiring getting expiring points back doesn't help much.

That was a special during parts of covid. Normally you don't get the coupon for the exchange fee. The current policy goes for protection added until the end of the year. " For a limited time, all Standard RCI Exchanges also receive Exchange Fee protection. If you are unable to travel you'll receive an exchange fee coupon valid for rebooking through 12/31/21." So if you make a reservation for 2022 and cancel in 2022 currently you get points back and that is it. If you make a reservation and cancel and rebook by 12/31/21, you get that coupon for your exchange fee.

Our wires got crossed. I was suggesting that the exchange fee coupon is no longer offered, but tschwa2 points out that it is still good through the end of '21. My last few exchanges were beyond that window, so for those protection only offers you full points back, even if you cancel "late"

Got the first VC who said it was too late to deposit those points because it is past the first 3 months of the year. I explained I know that but you made the change midyear and we were told you could deposit it for use. He said NO we can't. I said get me owner care, he said, let me check if I can transfer you to them. WTF.

That makes me angry.

I saw the RCI Points save is no longer a save for resale at this late in the game and just posted in the other thread about it. They are really hurting the resale buyers. I may have to book a few Bonnet Creek units for us to use some of those points. We have two trips ahead of us by the end of the year, and were going to stay at Marriott, but I will switch to Bonnet Creek in a heartbeat and retrade my Marriott weeks for January.

Wyndham is not being nice to resale buyers.

Can you give more info on this? I really hope I'm misunderstanding the comment.

They said something during the meeting today. Wyndham resale points have to be saved to RCI like five months ahead. So it's too late for 2021 points. That is my understanding.
