I bought two deeds this year with free 2024 points so I knew I'd have to pay to save. Today is the deadline to save points at the lower price.

Right now I have 1200 bHC points.

I have a reservation in November which we may modify later, up to sixty days prior to departure, which would save us 5500 points that would need to be saved. I believe it's about a 1/3 chance we will modify and have those points, and 2/3 chance we won't.

Would you pay to save today, knowing you might have to pay again later, or wait to save all the points so you only have to pay once, albeit at the higher price?

I have never saved points before so I'm also wondering if I have misunderstood anything about the process.

If there is another unit size/type still available for bookings, you can quickly cancel your November reservation, then save all of your points and then rebook your November reservation using your saved points. However if it’s Thanksgiving week and your desired unit size/type is not currently available don’t risk it.

Saved points can be borrowed.
Saved points will return back to their saved status if canceled ;)
