Save Club Wyndham expiring points

My foreign speaking friends purchased many years ago an RCI week timeshare at Kona Hawaiian Village, which was involuntarily turned into a Club Wyndham points membership. They have never understood how the points work (nor do I) and they have not used the points for 4 years. Each year the previous year of 105,000 points expire from inactivity. I am trying to help them save this years points that will expire January, 2020. Also, they really need to get out of this timeshare graciously, although I am not sure they will understand walking away from the tens of thousands they invested.
Therefore, can anyone provide help with the following questions:
1) How to save expiring points?
2) What is the difference between Wyndham Hotel Rewards points and Club Wyndham points?
3) Can points be transferred between the above programs?
4) Best method to get out of timeshare, including sell, as on RedWeek, do the Ovation thing, etc.?
Thank you in advance for your ideas.

Try Ovations to give back the timeshare.

Learning how to use Wyndham involves a lot more than answering these three questions. They will simply have to research on their own. If they aren’t willing, they should just deed back the timeshares.

1) they could deposit points into RCI to save expiring pts. It’s a shame they wasted four years of usage or $2,400. They need to call Wyndham to set up theirs RCI account.

2) CW pts are mainly just for timeshares.

3) possibly but you get bad returns.

4) Ovations

Your friends should try to use the program before trying to sell or just giving it back.
Reading the post and being a member here on TUG has been really useful to me. People are so willing to share information.
But they need to log onto the Wyndham site read the Owner 101 sections. There are also videos

If they only have 105K points, pretty sure their only option for this year is to deposit into an RCI account (if they have one). But shouldn't they already have an RCI account? If not, they should get one set up asap. Thinking they should call Wyndham to ask further - 800-251-8736.

There is a points deposit feature that allows you to move usage forward (to keep them from expiring and/or accumulate 2 years of points to plan if you need more than 105K points for a reservation). Pretty sure they need to deposit next years points before Jan 1 (into 2021 or 2022). If they want to do that, it moves points forward while they decide what to do. It's $39 to do so. Not sure this is great advice, but it would buy them some time (a year) to figure out what to do before they lose even more points.

As far at the difference between Wyndham Hotel Rewards points and Club Wyndham points (your item #2), they are 2 completely different programs which quite sadly are named too similarly. I was never able to explain that to my Dad. EVER, lol.
--- Wyndham Hotel Rewards are earned on your Wyndham Rewards Visa (and also by staying at Wyndham hotels) and can be used on the wyndhamhotels.com website. COMPLETELY separate set of points. These allow you to book Wyndham brand hotels. Hotels NOT timeshares
--- Club Wyndham points are managed on the myclubwyndham.com website. These are the timeshare points. These are what you pay maintenance fees for. These allow you to book Wyndham timeshares (not hotels).
If there is a way to transfer points between the two programs (your item #3) you would not want to do so. The exchange rate would be horrible.

Rule of thumb for Club Wyndham points, use them for timeshare reservations. Any other use will not be a return of value for your points (don't buy cruises, theme tickets, use them to pay maintenance, etc).

The easiest way to get out will likely be Ovations (assuming it is paid for)? But it might be worth something on the resale market, you would need to post more information (what are the maintenance fees) and someone on here will tell you what it might bring resale.

I hope you are able to help your friends. I also think you need to be sure they steer clear of Wyndham sales. If they end up talking to someone in sales, surely the solution will be for them to buy more points.

Good luck!
