We are planning a trip to the Sarasota area. We are looking at either the fourth of July and a few days after, or the first week in August. I know the weather will be hot, but we are now tied to a school schedule, so we have to take what we can get. We were in Siesta Key in September and the heat really didn't bother us on the beach. As an added bonus, we LOVE warm ocean water...since that's where we plan on spending most of our time, we're comfortable with that time period.

My question is, when would you go?

Fireworks on the beach for the 4th sounds awesome. However, I would imagine it will be PACKED.

In general do you think there would be a difference in the crowd levels at the beach and in the touristy areas in Sarasota?

How about weather? Is either July or August significantly more rainy than the other?

What about hurricane risk? I believe September tends to be the worst, but is there significantly more risk in say August than July?

Anything else you think I should consider?

Thanks!

Go in July. The more you get into August and September, the worse it gets in terms of heat, humidity, and weather.

There is very little variation in daily weather from late June through mid September. High humidity and low 90s, thunderstorms. If the winds are from the east, you get thunderstorms late afternoon or evening. If the winds are from the Gulf, you get storms in the morning. After an hour or two, it blows through and clears up again. Tropical storm season peaks around Labor Day. That is really just the luck of the draw, but the chance of you being affected by one is probably quite low.

The July 4th week should be busier. Everything else side by side is the same, I would decide to go when it is best for you.
