Sands of Kahana's restaurant will now be the new home for Captain Jack's, which is the sister restaurant of Cool Cats. Cool Cats is now in Kihei.

The Centennial State
Resorts Owned
Wyndham; Disney OKW & SSR; Marriott's Willow Ridge, Shadow Ridge and Grand Chateau; Val Chatelle; Hono Koa OF (3); SBR(LOTS), SDO a few); WKORV-OFC-4 and Westin Desert Willow.
So few restaurants were able to stay on the west end of Maui, but Captain Jack's found a home at Sands. We will be visiting regularly, just a mile walk from Hono Koa, plus we stay at Sands and Kahana Beach a lot. Looking forward to Captain Jack's new digs. The restaurant has great fish and chips, which is the only thing I have when we go.

This is probably good news. They are also taking over Dolly's which is across the street.

But, I hope that Captain Jacks will get rid of the horrible picnic tables and rock hard benches and put in some decent chairs and tables. My wife has had knee replacements and "threading" her legs into a picnic table is painful. Yes, there were a couple of tables where someone sawed off the connection to the bench so that the bench could move. But moving a heavy 5 or 6 foot bench still isn't all that easy. I've wondered how they could get away with seating that (IMHO) probably doesn't comply with ADA laws.

Is Dolly's moving? We always loved their pizza.

Well, Dolly's and the Beach House (at the Sands) is currently run by the same company.

The company that owns/runs Captain Jacks and Kool Kat (both of which burned down) are taking over Dolly's and the Beach house later this year.

I agree that Dolly's pizza was good. I would take to the activities sales person at the Sands and they'd give me some cards that would give me a free slice of pizza at Dolly's.

I hope that the new company makes some improvements in service and the gawd awful seating at the Sands.

I read this on Tripadvisor:

1." The parent company of Cool Cats and Captain Jack's is buying Dollies Pub and the Kahana Beach House.

"They hope to open the Beach House as a new Captain Jack's sometime this summer. I think they are planning to keep Dollies pretty much the same.

2. " An update.......the owners will take over July 1st. However, they had to agree with Sands of Kahana to keep the Beach House pretty much "as is" until after Labor Day. They will then close for around a month to "freshen" it up and change things around more. So far, they have already changed some of the menu there.

"Dollie's is still expected to stay pretty much as is. [comment: Maybe Dollie's will still be named Dollie's??]"

Mahalo!!

I don't get my news from TripAdvisor. I get it directly from the source:

I will have to look these up next time I'm there!

We leave for Maui next Saturday, so this has been a good week of news. Looking forward to Cool Cat, even if it is in a new location.

The article says "by the end of 2024". Hoping it's open for our late Oct. visit to Kahana Falls this year.

Went to Cool Cat for lunch today. Their burgers are still killer, and the new location is nice. I hope that they do well enough to thrive because obviously they’re going to miss out on the foot traffic on Front Street in Kihei, and this time of day at their old location, they’d be damn near full. They’ll always have our support, though.
