Need to spend one day in San Jose with two young kids. Will go to the Tech, and catch plane next day, hopefully without a car. I found Wyndham airport (1350 North First Street) to have airport shuttle and on light rail, and good price on Hotwire (all nice downtown hotels are over $200 and not avialable on hotwire). The question is: is the Wyndham area safe enough to use the light rail ? If not, any other suggestions ?

Should be fine. The light rail to down town is safe and quick from there.

Also a good choice near the airport/light rail:
Doubletree Hotel San Jose
