Hi just wondering if anyone has stayed at the Homewood Suites at Liberty Station in San Diego. I'm wondering what the area is like or where we can walk to. I know there is a lot to do in San Diego, but I'm also wondering what there might be to do if we want to have a couple of quiet days as opposed to full-out sight-seeing days? so, would it be a nice spot to stroll along the beach/boardwalk? or perhaps just sight-see in the immediate area? any good restaurants within walking distance?

thanks, any comments are helpful

There is no need to stay in a hotel in that area. There are plenty of timeshare resorts in that area (especially towards the north end of San Diego, about 25 miles out) that can be rented or exchanged into inexpensively. Check out areas like Carlsbad Inn, Coronado Beach Resort, Southern California Beach Club, Grand Pacific Palisades, Carlsbad Seapointe Resort, etc. These are tough to get during summer weeks though.

well, everyone seems to mention how nice the Coronado Beach Resort is, so it must be very nice, however almost everything is booked for the time we wish to travel, except the Homewood Suites, which is why I was asking about that. I just don't know anything about the area.

Thanks for the tip on the other locations. I'll look into them for another time.

It looks like a fine location, although I am not totally familiar with the immediate area.

Regarding the timeshares being full - Have you attempted to rent directly from an owner? That might be an option.

Liberty Station is right under the departure end of the SD Int'l airport. It will be very noisy, and some distance from the SD attractions- like the Midway, Balboa Park, Sea World, Little Italy. Not sure if it's anywhere close to the SD Trolly tracks that will take you all over the city fun and cheaply. It would certainly require a car. Seems to me though that it's fairly close to Trader Joe's and Point Loma- though not walking distance.

San Diego is a fun city and one we go to a couple of times a year. So much to do, and in defense of the OP's choice, attractions are so spread out that no matter which district of the city one chooses to stay in, you're going to be doing some significant driving to do what you want to do.

do you mean from a site such as vrbo? I'm new to the timeshare world. Always looking for tips though. I was mostly looking for ways to use my points. Fill me in on where to look, as I'm always after a good deal.

thanks!

Sure, use your points if you can. If you can't and are going to rent a place like Homstead, maybe check out rental ads.

Some places to look are here on TUG Marketplace or redweek.com. TUG marketplace has an area where you can post trading a week. I'm not sure how much success comes out of it, but it is worth a try if you have your heart set on something.

My family has stayed there 6 or 7 times. We love the location and have not had any problems with the noise from the airport. It's close to Point Loma Seafood and Pizza Nova where we like to eat. There is a Safeway within walking distance at Liberty Station. Downtown SD is a 10 minute drive away. There is a great place for fresh breads and partries close by called Con Pane.

Yes, we have stayed more than once and found it to be a good choice for us. We did not notice any excessive noise from the airport. You will want a car. The attractions are all an easy drive from the hotel.
