San Diego area recommendation

I've read the reviews but they are conflicting.

We are looking for luxury and proximity to San Diego proper. No childlren, just an adult couple, not golfers.

I know the FS Aviara is superb -- but which resorts rank next in line?

A vast majority of the inventory in San Diego county is with RCI. Even thought many are dual affliated, II doesn't get much of the inventory.
I believe Coronado Beach Resort trades with II and RCI, its a very nice resort. although not even close to FS.
Gaslamp Plaza Suites in San Diego is very nice, perfect for adults only.

Since you're just a couple.. you might want to consider hotels.
