We are looking at going to San Antonio for a long weekend early next year. I looked at TripAdvisor and both of the Wyndams only got average reviews. They talked about dirty rooms, poor locations and hard to check-in/park.
Any thoughts or recommendations for those who have stayed there?

We stayed at the Wyndam La Cascada earlier this year, and loved it. We've only ever stayed in hotels in San Antonio before, so it was awesome having so much space and a full kitchen. Our units were spotless. We had no issues at all checking in or out or parking. The location isn't right in the middle of the Riverwalk, but it's right next to what I would call the far side of the Riverwalk. It's a fairly short walk to the main area. We had a 2BR Deluxe and a 4BR Presidential. The Presidential units are some of the nicest I've ever seen and the Deluxe units are above average (as most Wyndhams are).

I know there are some very detailed reviews in the members section here on TUG.

We stayed at La Cascada a few years ago. It was all new and in great condition. The location is not that great. No views. However, it is safe and parking is expensive in San Antonio if you are taking a car. We paid $15.00 a day for valet parking and it was worth it. Just called down to the desk 10 minutes before leaving and your car was waiting. Cars were parked next door in a secure garage. The room was very nice, the resort is attractive and the staff very helpful. The shuttle offered by the resort stops at the other Whyndham resort and this one was by far the better choice. Had a pool and small gym. Have a great time.

Have stayed several times at La Cascada and it has been during the holidays. Check in has always been quick and units have been in great condition. Valet parking is $15 a day but they are always quick to get your car. The riverwalk is a 10 minute walk from resort. The only thing I did not like was their swimming pool. Several dead cockroaches dead and floating in the pool.

It sounds likes people are confusing the two Wyndhams. Riverside Suite has the better location as it is right on the riverwalk, right over Landry's seafood. However it is noisey especially if you get a room next to Polly Esters Disco right next door. The front desk will provide ear plugs. Parking is down the street a block. This building is built in 1928 and is converted to Condos and then Timeshares. I have had some cleanliness issues staying at this property. Parking garage is very small and tight and someone hit my car when it was parked her last time we stayed at this property.

I much prefer the La Cascada property just down from the flow control dam just outside of the the official riverwalk area, even though it is still on the river. The rooms are bigger, laid out better, it is quieter and parking (albeit expensive) is online with valet service.

I've only stayed at Riverside Suites although I own at Las Cascadas. :)

I found the location great. We were there to attend a medical convention and most of the evening activities were very close to this TS. Cascadas was further away. We were able to walk to several of the activities.

The parking is a bit awkward but I live in a big city so am used to inconvenient parking. You can check in by leaving your car temporarily across the street from the lobby and then they will give you a monthly parking card for the public parking lot. I think they charged us $10 a day for parking with in and out privileges.

The TS is an old converted Salvation Army building and the units have awkward layouts but that's part of the charm of the place. Our unit had stained concrete floors and an eclectic bedroom set. The kitchen and baths were nice. I'd go back anytime. I'm sure Cascadas is nicer with the Presidential units but it's a bit off the beaten path.

I agree with all of this. But, the noises we were bothered by were the trash pick up (4:30 am) and the restaurant deliveries (starting at 5:30 am). We were in the B side of a lock out and were directly above the check in area over looking the street.

Are there two Trip Adviser websites? What I see there has me wanting to buy my next timeshare at Riverside Suites

The first 10 headlines for the La Casada reviews are:

“Beautiful facilities - .....”

“Awesome Place”

“Beautiful room and really nice staff”

“Wonderful Room”

“Great resort .....”

“Nice Place but..."

“Did I Stay in the Same Place as the Negative Reviewers?”

]And Riverside Suites:

“Not Your Usual Wyndam”

“Not Up to Par”

“Great location, vintage gem”

“Location is the only good thing about it.”

“Location,location, location”

“Conveniently Located - No Car Required”

“Great Location - located on the Riverwalk”

“The best location on the San Antonio Riverwalk!”

“Can't beat the location!”

“Negative reviews must be for some other place!”

“Wonderful stay”

I then looked for other timeshares in town...I didnt find any

If you want a new resort go to La Casada, if you want eccentric and quirky and cool and appreciate old and re-purposed buildings go to Riverside Suites. If your idea of a great vacation is to be entertained, go to La Casada. If you are going to San Antonio for San Antonio and want to find your entertainment outside your room, pick Riverside Suites...Both of these are urban resorts, If you want to experience San Antonio and stay at a timeshare property, pick either one (there are really no other choices) The clear choice for me would be Riverside Suites

We loved La Cascada. Had a regular 2BR unit, not a presidential, and thought it was wonderful. Clean, large, and in good condition. Parking costs were typical of parking in any downtown location (MUCH cheaper than what we paid when we stayed at the Hyatt Hotel).

We liked the location being a bit off the beaten path. We got tired of walking in the crowds and were happy when we made the turn up the river walk path to go "home" after enjoying the main part of the river area. We walked everywhere from La Cascada along the river, even to the San Antonio art museum a few miles away.

We actually had a pretty nice view (see my photos in the link below). We were above giant AC units of the building next door which were noisy and garbage trucks are loud when they make their morning rounds in this type of downtown environment. But the building is well insulated and we really only heard the noise if we were on our balcony or had the windows open.

We dealt with pleasant staff at check in,
check out and for valet service. Check in staff helped us get a better view by changing our unit location (our originally assigned unit looked out at a parking garage wall). We did avoid the "concierge" staff because we heard they were high pressure timeshare salespeople.

Just make sure it's on the side overlooking the Riverwalk. The early morning noise on the street side is loud.
