We will be returning to our home resort (Maui Ocean Club) this spring. I anticipate that we will attend a sales presentation and perhaps enroll our legacy weeks in the DC.

Our trusted salesman, Chris Geng, has left Marriott. Do any of you have a recommendation for a good sales advisor at Maui Ocean Club that we could ask for? We always had great experiences with Chris Geng, and would like to avoid the unpleasant sales presentations that we've experienced at Ko'Olina and other locations.

Looking for someone who would be very knowledgeable, honest, and respectful. (Oh dear - is that too much to ask in the world of timeshare sales?)

We had an excellent presentation in September. I believe his first name was Tim, but I have his card at home and will be home on Sunday. He knew that we had already learned much from TUG about the DC, and understood our concerns about the skim as he owned one of the same weeks we do.

We did not join, but I told him if we ever did join or buy points we would call him. He did not do any of the "your week will be worthless predictions", but did outline how we might make the DC work for to our advantage. I think he said he'd been there seven years, and was a gentleman, not just a too typical these days "sales executive".

My husband and I would not hesitate to recommend him based on our meeting, the most pleasant we've ever had. Now, if I can just find that card!

Sandy Wall

We can highly recommend Sandy Wall. We've met with Sandy the last 3yrs since our original purchase, each visit he's been very respectful of our financial position (self-employed, small business) when we've explained that as our reason for lack of additional purchase and we've felt no pressure (no need to delve into whether we'd purchase, or not, otherwise). We actually enjoy our time catching up with Sandy, and don't hestitate to book our 'refresher' session. I should note that we feel Sandy was very truthful in our original session; I can't think of any point he made during our sales presentation that has proved to be false.

I only wish I could say the same of our recent presentation at Waiohai, although by the close I feel we'd reached a mutual understanding with that salesperson.

I have a very positive relationship with Lance Cowan. I bought my first MOC unit from him, almost bought a Ko Olina unit from him, and he and I have discussed the pro's and con's of the new system (and he knows exactly how I feel about skimming...)

Enjoy your trip!

Best,

Greg

I highly recommend Keith Hertz. He is actually more familiar than most of the other sales people with resorts other than MOC because for a few years prior to DC he was the lead person on the MOC sales force who sold to prospects who wanted to buy resorts other than MOC. He has been with the MOC sales force since prior to 2006, when we bought our first Maui unit from him.

As an aside, I have long said that the MOC sales force is in a class by itself. I am not surprised that several different individuals have been highly recommended in this thread. I suspect they are all very good.

After being at several sales presentations at other resorts, I agree with this statement. I tend to think they put their best at MOC. Historically, MOC sells itself, so the sales staff doesn't have to use their clever Jedi tricks (as much).

I recommend Gregg Mayer. I know Sandy also, either can be recommended in my book.

I agree that the MOC sells itself. We had no intention in buying that day but the resort grounds are beautiful in front of a lovely beach and the beautiful Pacific Ocean with two islands in front of you. How can you not like it?

Our sales lady was the best and we didn't buy on the spot but saw her three times before we finally upgraded. She was highly professional so we went to see her again and had to hunt her down when we finally decided to buy as it was her day off. She has left or I could highly recommend her too. Two of the three updates since then were very good and low key and one was less than honest, imho. She is no longer there.

I would recommend Sandy Wall too. We bought our unit from him and visit him everytime we go back. He didn't pressure us into buying when we viewed the resort with him. And he doesn't pressure us during our follow up visits.
If you do talk to him tell him Greg & Shanna White said hello.

Thanks Ann, and thanks to everyone who provided me recommendations. It is nice to have several names to choose from in case one is booked full or otherwise not available.

I agree with the MOC sales staff but our last trip in Feb we did get a new guy that did try to hard sell me. When I said I needed some time to crunch the numbers he grew annoyed and sarcatically said "I can get you a calculator". I laughed it off because that doesn't bother me but he was obviously annoyed. I think his name was Kevin. He said he was in the real estate business for a long time but only one year with Marriott.

We just finished an enjoyable sales presentation with Sandy. He is a friendly, low-pressure guy. We will likely enroll our two legacy weeks (although we didn't do it on the spot during our presentation). I had a whole list of questions, and I feel Sandy was completely honest in his responses without any embellishments.

What a shame, Chris was the # 2 guy in the whole company. Sandy is also very good

Yes - Chris is pretty awesome. Back in the day, established clients would come to him unsolicited and ask to buy another week - he was that good. Although he was very knowledgeable about the MVCI product, I think his success mainly came from his ability to connect with people and build relationships.

I'm not sure what motivated his departure from Marriott. Chris left after the introduction of the DC points program and after the announcement of the spinoff, but I don't know how those things may have influenced his decision. I know that Marriott tried (unsuccessfully) to woo him over to Ritz Carlton Club.

I have stayed in touch with Chris and he remains a friendly and accessible guy. He still speaks very positively about Marriott and still owns several Marriott weeks himself, so I don't think there is any bad blood. In fact, last year Chris encouraged me to buy additional Marriott weeks on the resale market because of the current low prices. I followed his advice and bought three more weeks.

Chris is still living on Maui and is now running his own business. He can be found at http://www.mauiresortrealty.com

Thats great to hear. I met him 2 times at sales confrences and he certainly was one of my favorite co-workers. It was easy to see why he was so good, just a great guy and I wish him luck.

And what were those reasons for you?
