Swore up and down I would never, ever buy destination club points, but I just bought a 1,000. We‘re at the Marriott Grand Vista.
We paid $13.78. We received $250 for attendance at the presentation. It will get us back to Executive with, allegedly, new benefits coming. We have an encore visit coming at the Pulse in NYC and the money we paid so far for that was credited to the down payment and we don’t have to pay the rest or attend the presentation. We will receive the 50,000 Bonvoy points attached to the encore. We will finance it through them because after 18 payments we will get 1,000 one time use Destination Club points. Additionally, we received a free one time two bedroom unit to trade in Interval. Everything is charged to the Chase Marriott Visa so it will be times six. We are major collectors of reward points.

Never say Never. ;-)

Executive is the sweet spot in the current benefits tier...the single+ night booking at 13 months makes a world of difference in your ability to work the system to happiness.

As for financing....I would check the cost of the interest over that 18 months, and if it exceeds the rental cost of 1000 points, its likely not the best approach.

Financing for the extra 1,000 points probably doesn't make financial sense. In that 18 months you will pay about $1,800 in interest if you are financing the whole amount minus a 10% down payment. You can probably rent extra one time use points for a third the amount.

ETA: Those 18 monthly payments if charged to the Bonvoy credit card will really only net you about 20,000 more Bonvoy points.

So how much do you value all the add ons (the bonus points they gave you)?
Right now Redweek has resale points at 1500 points for $2.60/point and 1000 at $3.20/point, after junk that is around $6-$7/point.
If you are happy then be happy but just want to make sure you know all the options.

Congrats on the purchase -- I agree with Fasttr, being able to book single night reservations 13 months out is terrific, and rare in the timeshare world. Enjoy your ownership and enjoy NYC!

Best,

Greg

Curious how long it will take for points to be active and new status to go into effect?
