Now that the Badgers are playing in the game, we would like to not only watch the Rose Parade (our daughter is marching in it) but also hang outside the stadium (or in a bar) during the game. We don't have game tickets (yet?).

Has anyone has ever driven to the Rose Bowl and parked nearby? Is there a good spot to park that will be close to the tailgating? We will have my mom with us, so we can't walk extended distances. Any suggestions you can give us would be appreciated.

FYI, we were at the Rose Parade five years ago when our older daughter was in the parade. We just never ventured down to the stadium because of the crowds.

Congrats on Wisconsin's win - I was rooting for the Spartans :cheer:

The parking is very limited around the Rose Bowl. With close to 100,000 in attendance for that game I will venture to say that it will be impossible to find parking that will not entail a long hike. As the Rose Bowl is surrounded by residential, you will not find a sports bar in the vicinity either.

If you want to see the Rose Bowl, I would suggest two options - (1) visit the Rose Bowl the day BEFORE the game if that works into your schedule OR (2) arrive early on game day, pay the parking fee and enjoy the tailgating. The earlier you arrive, the closer you can be to the stadium to avoid the hike. Once the game starts, you can leave (without fighting the crowds!) and find a sports bar in Pasadena to watch the game.

They convert Brookside Gold Course into a parking lot . . . .

Can't park on the putting greens or sandtraps:rofl:

Since your going to be on Colorado Boulevard (Route 66) check out options to access the stadium

Particularly MTA.NET for bus service from the parade zone to the stadium zone and back - leaving lyhe car securly parked

We went there for the Millennial (1/1/2000) Rose Bowl when the Badgers were last there. Parking is a premium. We went for the 'Official Rose Bowl Parade/Game' package. It included room(s) bus transport to/from parade/game, seats, tickets to the band competition before the big day and more. We had time ahead to help decorate a float- this is great fun and gives you a feeling of participation. Volunteers are in great demand.

Just do a search. Here's one- but there are others: http://www.news.wisc.edu/18715 $439 land only.

Have fun- Our trip there was a real bucket list fulfiller! DW is a UWM grad and her now 94 y.o. dad who accompanied us worked a booth at Madison every game for years.

Go Badgers!

I talked with my sister (co-planner) and we decided that we strongly prefer to not have to move the vehicle once we park it prior to the parade. I believe that means we either park at Parsons or in the Sierra Madre Metro stop.

If we park at Sierra Madre (it's first come, first serve) do you think we will have trouble finding a parking stall? I've never used the LA Metro - would it be a good choice to use it to get us to a stop farther west along the parade route?

I should mention that my mother has a hard time going up and down stairs due to an accident. She can do some, but walking up and down three levels of subway may be a lot, especially if we start out the day with it. She does have a handicap parking permit available.

RX8, you had a good idea about seeing the stadium before the game. When we're there for Bandfest, it will be easy enough to just drive around the stadium just to see it.

It would be great to get in to the game, especially since my husband is also a UW-Madison grad. We lived near Madison for 20 years and definitely feel a connection. We're just not able to spend much more than face value on the game tickets since we (and out kids) just became Packer owners. Choices, choices... Hubby said he would rather have a Packer stock that would last a lifetime than see a bowl game that will last and afternoon.

As far as parade seating, is being located in Area One (the first part) worth the extra cost? If you're seated just after the corner, can I assume you can't view the bands until they've made the corner? If we're a little farther east in Area One, is the noise from the Pasenda Freeway going to be loud?

Thanks again, everyone, for your help!

I have used the Sierra Madre station multiple times. They have a multi story parking garage right next door (no charge, elevators). There has always been plenty of parking available but I have not attempted it during a Rose Bowl event. If you are planning on using Siera Madre just for getting to the Rose Parade I don't think it will benefit you. You will only be able to take it about a mile or two and it won't leave you close to the grand stands. There are plenty of paid parking around for $20 to $30.

As far as your question about the parade seating, the main grand stands on Colorado Blvd (TV view) are close to the corner so that should not be a concern. However, there are also stands on Orange Grove at Colorado Blvd and although I have never sat there it wouldn't be my preference. The further east you go you will find fewer seating stands and you will be fighting crowds for views. I've watched the parade sitting almost at the end of the route and the only downside was that the parade took forever to finally get to us. Freeway noise won't be a problem no matter where you watch the parade from. All you will hear are noises from the parade activity.

I just finished ordering tickets. We decided that sticking with Area One made the most sense because we could park once, see the parade, and walk down to the stadium. It's costing more than we had hoped to spend but I think the day of the Parade/Game, we will be happy we did it.

Thanks, everyone, for posting so quickly.
